[edit] Story

Hugo Andore and several members of his family were prominent members of Mad Gear, although Cody outfought the elder members in a cage match in the West Side and Haggar humiliated him in the original Final Fight, which infuriated the wrestler to no end. Enough that in Final Fight Revenge Andore attempted to give a televised broadcast to Haggar challenging him for the mayorship through a wrestling match, but unfortunately the broadcast was never aired. Andore and his family would continue to join Metro City's most prominent gangs for years to come, including a revived, worldwide Mad Gear in Final Fight 2 and Mad Gear's successor the Skull Cross gang in Final Fight 3. Even so, Haggar and his friends crushed each of these syndicates and Andore's hopes of glory.

Seemingly going fully legitimate and accompanied by Poison, Hugo entered the third World Warrior tournament in Street Fighter III: Second Impact because he wanted to find a suitable tag team partner, due to his former one being mysteriously killed off by a rival. During the tournament, Hugo battled with Ryu, a traveler who is constantly perfecting his fighting skills. In that battle Hugo was hit by the Shin Shoryuken, Ryu's most powerful move, but he was not knocked out by it and continued to put on an amazing performance. Ryu may have temporarily been his tag team partner anyway, but a permanent solution was not given and again Hugo needed a partner.

Eventually, Hugo and Poison decided to start their own wrestling promotion in Street Fighter III: Third Strike, the Huge/Hyu Wrestling Army (HWA). Their main objective is to take over all of pro wrestling.

[edit] Techniques

  • Monster Lariat: Hugo will run forward and knock the opponent to the ground with a powerful one-armed smash.
  • Giant Palm Bomber: Hugo will lean back, and slam both hands together in a powerful clapping attack. This move will destroy projectile moves, and well as cause considerable stun damage to the opponent.
  • Meat Squasher: Hugo will run forward with both arms out and attempt to grab the opponent. If he is successful, he will lift the opponent up and charge them into the wall.
  • Ultra Throw: Hugo will grab the opponent and quickly whip them into the opposite wall. This does very little damage, but it is an amazingly effective set-up for the Shootdown Backbreaker and Megaton Press moves.
  • Moonsault Press: Hugo's big command throw. He spirals the opponent into the air and comes down on top of them in a bone-crunching body press attack. This technique does a great deal of damage.
  • Shootdown Backbreaker: Hugo jumps into the air, if he touches an airborne opponent, he will land them with a backbreaker and toss them to the ground.

[edit] Super Arts

  • Gigas Breaker: Hugo's big command grab super. He performs two backbreakers, and finishes it off with a Somersault Press. This is the most damaging of Hugo's super arts.
  • Megaton Press: Similar to the Devastator, upon grabbing the aerial opponent, Hugo will instead vault the opponent spiralling higher into the air, and finally whipping the opponent to the ground and landing on top of them.
  • Hammer Frenzy: Hugo will perform a series of powerful punches ending with his Giant Palm Bomber. This is the most versatile of his super arts as it is the only one which doesn't depend on a grab. He can delay this move by holding down the punch button, but if it is held too long the attack will not come out. Called "Hammer Mountain" in the Japanese version.

[edit] Trivia

  • Hugo's look and build are based off of the late professional wrestler, André the Giant.
  • Since 2nd Impact, Hugo has made a rivalry with Alex.
  • Hugo's likeness can be seen in the background of Guy's stages in Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3; also in SFA3 a billboard with a picture of him appears in the top, far right corner of Cody's stage background.
  • Hugo and Alex's pose before battle is in reference to the feud between André the Giant and Hulk Hogan.
  • Hugo's win poses are based off of the entrance poses used by Hulk Hogan (muscle flexing), The Big Show (raising his palm in the air), and Triple H (scream).
  • In the background of Hugo's stage in Street Fighter III, there are various championship belts on the floor that vaguely resemble All Japan Pro Wrestling's AJPW Triple Crown Championship.
  • In that same stage there are small toys, uneaten junk food scattered around on the floor, as well as a large decorated christmas tree in the corner of the room, implying that Hugo may have a somewhat infantile and childish personality when he's not fighting.
  • He keeps a pet Scarlet Macaw in a large cage inside his home.
