Hubert and Abby

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hubert and Abby is a comic strip by Mel Henze that chronicles the daily adventures of its three main characters: Abby, Hubert and Turtle.

Abby is a technologically declined nurse who lovingly tolerates her two companions.

Hubert wishes he could take advantage of current technological advances, but is limited by Abby's unwillingness to embrace the high-tech world. Hubert will always tell it like it is, even if it means he has to make up what "it" is. Hubert desperately wishes he could find out exactly what species he belongs to.

Turtle loves to read, preferably in a natural setting, and loves to quote Thoreau, among others. His quiet, unassuming way is in direct conflict with Hubert's somewhat harsh personality. Turtle, being so sweet, often gets roped into Hubert's schemes.

Abby shares Turtle's fondness for nature and good literature, and prefers holidays in a rustic cabin over a fancy hotel suite. Hubert definitely prefers the latter. In Turtle's estimation, Hubert is "...a total princess!"

Other characters that show up on occasion are:

  • Josh, a young amputee at the hospital
  • Mr. Gronkin, an extended care curmudgeon
  • Stan, the morgue worker
