Huastecs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Huastecs are a group of North American Indians related to the Maya peoples. Located mainly in what is now the northern section of the Mexican state of Veracruz, this is the same area from where the Olmecs and Totonacs hailed. This particular tribe is of special interest to the ethnologist as they became so entirely detached from the other Maya peoples of Mesoamerica. The current theory is that, as the Mayas came down from the north, the Huastecs were left behind in the migration.
