Hu Cheer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hu Cheer (Traditional Chinese: 胡車兒; pinyin: Hú Chē Ér) was a general serving under Zhang Xiu during the period of Chinese history known as the Three Kingdoms Period. He was not of Chinese origin, and some historians believe he may have come from a Norse background. [citation needed]

Hu Cheer fought for Dong Zhuo until Dong's death, whereupon he then became a soldier of Zhang Xiu. He was said to have been the greatest warrior of Zhang Xiu's army, and even Cao Cao gave gold to him for his prowess when Zhang Xiu surrendered. In the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, on the night of the ambush at Wancheng he stole Dian Wei's weapon, insuring victory over Cao Cao's forces. He was not mentioned again in historical texts or the novel after the battle.
