WIZA100 and WIZA200 are different in the design of the case and the keyboard, most reviews state that the WIZA100's keyboard is more usable (WIZA200 is shown on illustration). [edit] Registry fixes
All incarnations of the HTC Wizard except the i-mate K-Jam come shipped with the 802.11g wireless mode disabled. You may re-enable it by using any Windows Mobile compatible software that supports registry editing such as Total Commander CE [1] (tip: to browse the registry, set the location to \\\registry\). You simply need to add a Dword named dot11SupportedRateMaskG with a value of 8 to the following location in your HTC Wizard's registry:
\HKLM\Comm\TNETWLN1\Parms\.
A widely recommended tweak also significantly speeds up performance of the device with no apparent side-effects. Using a registry editor lookup and change the following three values:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0x1000(4096)
-
-
- (default decimal value is 0, on a Qtek 9100)
-
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache=0x1(1)
-
-
- (default decimal value is 1, on a Qtek 9100)
-
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize=0x1000(4096)
-
-
- (default decimal value is 0, on a Qtek 9100)
-
Remember to take care when editing your registry as it contains sensitive data which could cause malfunctions if not used properly. After editing the registry, power off the device to save the changes to ROM and then perform a soft reset.
[edit] Customer complaints
As a cellphone, this model has many problems and may not be suitable for all users. Particular difficulties users may experience include:
- No hard-keys for numeric keypad. The on-screen keypad is a) difficult to activate and b) finicky to use w/o the stylus. *UPDATE*(The on-screen keypad can be easily activated by pressing the dial key.)*UPDATE*
- The screen constantly needs re-alignment. The stylus can be up to 1/2" away from where you think you are pressing it. (This can be resolved by not allowing a large amount of pressure on the screen [as from being in your pocket]: For this reason it is advisable to use the provided belt clip)
- Synchronizing to Exchange server requires downloading certificates to the phone; a complex procedure many are never able to complete successfully. (Contested reports on this matter. certificates can simply be copied across via usb and activesync software)
- Too complex for the average customer. This phone requires advanced knowledge of windows that most people don't have. T-Mobile for example, has users call a special data services group to get support for this phone. Getting the most out of this phone may require you to put more work into it than your standard phone. However this applies to most smartphones anyway, so it is not a unique feature.
