The HSBC Women's World Match Play Championship is an LPGA Tour golf tournament which was played for the first time on 30 June to 3 July 2005 at Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, New Jersey. It was the first matchplay event on the LPGA Tour in fifty years. In 2007 the event moved to the Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, New York.
[edit] Selection process
In 2006 the 64 woman field was selected as follows:
- The top 30 from the Rolex Women’s World Rankings, as of Tuesday June 27.
- The leading 29 available players from the LPGA Tour money list as of Tuesday June 27 not otherwise qualified through category 1
- Two sponsor exemptions
- The No.1 ranked player on Ladies European Tour Order of Merit as of Tuesday June 27.
- The defending champion
- The winner of 2006 US Women's Open if not otherwise exempt.
NOTE: If any of categories 4, 5 or 6 are already in the field by virtue of categories 1 and 2 the additional spots are given to the next highest ranked player on the ADT money list.
The closest equivalent event in men's professional golf is the WGC-Accenture World Matchplay Championship, which is also a 64 player 18 hole matchplay event. HSBC also sponsors the HSBC World Match Play Championship on the PGA Tour, a longer established sixteen player thirty-six hole event tournament played in the United Kingdom.
The 2007 tournament will be played from July 19 through July 22.
