[edit] Connectivity

The Officejet 7100 Series can work in a "Stand Alone" mode or in a "Support Mode".

[edit] Stand Alone

The Stand Alone mode enables the printer to function without being connected to a computer. In this mode, the printer can only photocopy and fax. Print and Scan services are only available when connected to a computer (Support Mode).

[edit] Support Mode

The Support mode enables the user to use all the functions of the All-In-One printer. These features enable the user to print and scan from the computer as well as photocopy and fax. To use all the features, the user must install the "Full Feature" software from the supplied software CD. Doing this will not only install the printer driver into the computer, but it will also installing the required imaging device into the Device Manager and a "USB Composite Device" on computers running Windows XP.

[edit] Ways to Connect to a Computer

The Officejet 7100 Series can connect to a computer by one of two methods: USB or Ethernet. This unit has a built in ethernet card and does not require a separate HP JetDirect Print Server. To make these printers wireless capable, they can be installed in conjunction with a wireless (802.11 b/g) router. The full feature software must be install on all computers on the network in order to use all the features. However, HP does not support the installation on a wireless router.
