User talk:Howard M Scott

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi there. Your page, Howard M Scott was listed for deletion, and I think most people, if not everybody, will support it being deleted. However, I think that you may have been a bit confused about userpages and articles. Your user page is a place where you can put everything related to yourself, but please don't create articles about yourself on the main namespace. If you want, I can help you move the aforementioned article to User:Howard scott, at your request. -Frazzydee| 03:46, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Well - you are right. I am a very new user of wikipedia - and like the idea of it very much.

But I haven't yet got a handle on where - serious questions can be asked - with an expectation of getting an insightful answer

and I don't know where to put information that may be useful to others.

Also- I see that my user page (which I have't used much) has a smalls rather than a capital S for my name. How do I change this?

I would appreciate you moving my info to the right spot and letting me know.

Cheers

Questions like what? You could try Wikipedia:Village pump. Please refrain from changing the essense of what I'm saying on my user page. It's not considered polite here. If you wish to say something to a user, you can use their talk page (mine is User_talk:Frazzydee). A user page is somewhere where you can say whatever you want (within reason...there's a policy on inappropriate user pages), but articles must follow more guidelines. To move the page, you can either copy and paste the code, or I can delete your current user page, and move everything there. The first one you can do yourself (or I can do it for you), but I need you to give me permission to do the second. Please leave a note here if you opt for this method. The second method will keep all the history of the page, and the first won't. -Frazzydee| 03:59, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Go to it Frazzydee - as I am completely lost.

[edit] Changing your username

Ok, done :). To change your user name, please (carefully!) follow the instructions on Wikipedia:Changing username. It would probably be easier to just create a new account and start all over, but then you would lose all your past contributions. If you want to keep your edit history, then follow the procedure. Please don't be surprised if it takes a while. I can't personally vouch that it'll be fast or slow, but I would guess that it takes at least a month or two. -Frazzydee| 04:21, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Interupt my day? Are you kidding? It's been a pleasure working with you :). If you want to change your user name, maybe you can just add it now and forget about it for a couple months...somebody will probably contact you when it's done. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or any other user. See you around. -Frazzydee| 04:29, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
User:Howard scott is your user page. Howard M Scott is the article that you created. It still has to go through the votes for deletion process, I'm not allowed to just go ahead and delete it. If something begins with User: then it's a user page. If it doesn't have anything, then it's an article. I'm going to sleep now- so feel free to talk to me, but I won't be able to respond until tomorrow. Good night :). -Frazzydee| 04:35, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Howard M Scott is not your user page. It's an article. People want to delete it because it's a redirect to your username (that happens when you move pages), and those aren't allowed. I noticed that you move your user page. I don't think you should do that. Firstly, somebody could steal your identity by registering under User:Howard M Scott. Secondly, when people go to your user page and try to see your contributions, they will see nothing. If you want, you should make User:Howard M Scott and User_talk:Howard M Scott redirects to your user page and your talk page. Then, you should change your preferences so that you sign under Howard M Scott rather than Howard scott.
If you do that, then you might as well request that your user name is changed. If you don't want to wait for too long, then list your name there, and contact a developer directly. They will probably agree to help you sooner if you ask nicely. -Frazzydee| 21:27, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
