Hi, I've seen a photo you shot of Howard Zinn and I'd like to use it on the Howard Zinn page on Wikipedia, crediting you with copyright as the photographer. This message requests that permission for use on Wikipedia. It will link to your interview with him at http://www.identitytheory.com/people/birnbaum10.html. Thanks.
More info: Use of the Zinn photo would fall within the parameters used to web publish your photo of Joan Didion at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joan_Didion and here: http://www.answers.com/topic/joan-didion-jpg
Both include this wording: A photo of Joan Didion taken by Robert Birnbaum (Red Diaz) and shown here (http://www.identitytheory.com/images/birnbaumpicdidion.html). Relevant portion of permission e-mail follows:
"I am fine with your use of low resolution photos of Allen Ginsberg and others that you find on IDT.
I am not sure I understand the GFDL licensing you refer to, but I am not inclined to waive my copyright on my creations in any general way." - Robert Birnbaum, RobtBirnbaum@aol.com
This work is copyrighted, and used with permission. The terms of the permission do not include third party use. The Wikipedia use of Robert Birnbaum's photo is fair use because the picture is low resolution, used noncommercially, and contributes significantly to the content of the Howard Zinn page.
