Howard Street Charter School is a small school Howard Street in Salem, Oregon inside South Salem High School. If students would like to get in, they must enter a lottery and be one of the lucky 50 to be chosen in their grade. There are approximately 150 total students each year. 2007 will be their tenth year up and running.

Currently, there is a school-wide project going on about Beauty and the Beast. The students evaluate the Disney movie, then make stained glass windows and magazines set in medieval or renaissance times. They are also learning the waltz, an important element in the story. On Thursday, December 14, the entire school will be traveling to Portland, Oregon to see Beauty and the Beast on stage, and comparing the two stories.
