[edit] Plot

The film tells the story of journalist Andie Anderson, who works for Composure magazine. She works as the "How to..." girl and is getting bored of it, wishing that she could write more political pieces. She soon finds herself writing an article called "How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days." Andie is told she will date a man and do all the things that women tend to do wrong when they are in relationships.

At the same time, advertising executive Benjamin Barry tells his boss that he can make a woman fall in love with him in just ten days. If he succeeds, he gets to do the advertising for the new diamond company account his boss has power over.

As misfortune would have it, Andie and Ben meet that night and start their quests without the other being aware. This leads to strange goings-on in their relationship before the end of the film and all is discovered.

[edit] Box office

Though being panned by critics, the movie was a big hit in its first weekend out earning over $20 million dollars and reached a total in the U.S. of over $100 million and another $71 million overseas marking a career high for Kate Hudson which she still has yet to surpass. The movie was also a success on video and DVD in its July 2003 release.
