How To Name It?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

How To Name It? is an instrumental Indian-Western fusion album by Ilayaraaja. This was Ilayaraaja's first fusion music album and it set a new trend in the audience who were exposed to this music for the first time. The album has great musical movements that are dedicated to Tyagaraja, a religious musician and composer of South India (1767-1847) and the Western Classical music composer, J. S. Bach (1685-1750) of Germany. Though fusion has been explored and attempted by many others, this is the first successful attempt where Ilayaraaja altered the meaning and shape of fusion music in India. He has not only given it self-expression, but also a correlation of the traditional and modern techniques of music. The album is a symbol of a beautiful mix of east and west. It is full of melodies, haunting tunes, and challenging orchestrations. The album has explored Western classical and Indian classical music in a novel fashion, which remains unparalleled even after 22 years of its release. But due to poor marketing, this interesting work did not reach all the possible audience throughout the world.

One of the tracks is based on Preludium in E by Johann Sebastian Bach.
