[edit] Working Man's Barnstar

The Working Man's Barnstar
Have run into your great work quite a few times over the last couple of weeks, even queried another admin as to why he was reverting you! Keep up the great work!  Glen  21:46, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Original Barnstar

The Original Barnstar
For your extaordinary work, above and beyond the call of duty, in splitting up the List of Faux Pas and in reworking the material into coherent sub-articles! --Elipongo 08:07, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Did you know?

Updated DYK query On 6 December 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

[edit] Maplemania

The maple talk has been archived but the Maplemania Archive is on my watch page and I encourage you to leave comments there. HouseOfScandal 08:43, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fili

Good work on Fili! I see you've actually done significant work on Wikipedia already, so it's a belated welcome. --Kathryn NicDhàna 19:58, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

Go raibh maith agat. You're very gracious. I've only been wiking for ten days however, so I'd say I'm still wearing the newbie mantle and will be for some time.

Unfortunately, I know I'll never be up to snuff when it comes to citation. I wik almost entirely from memory. Despite the fact that there's no shortage of published sources that propigate rubbish, I understand why Wikipedia standards call for them and know that I should start making an effort in this regard. Thanks again for you note. Wik well.

HouseOfScandal 15:18, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

  • There are times when I love being wrong, and this is one of them. A month ago I said that I would never be "up to snuff" when it came to citations. To be candid, I think I was just a little confused about the actually mechanics of the process. Look at any of the articles I've created recently and I hope you'll agree I've gotten very good about listing references and directly citing them when I should (especially when words are like "the biggest..." or "the oldest..." are concerned.) It looks like an old dog can teach himself new tricks. HouseOfScandal 12:14, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No, thank you

I echo your sentiments. It's always nice to work with good people. It's great to have you Wiki-ing, and I for one look forward to seeing someone smart, grown-up and civilized on WikiProject Comics. You'll find some good people here, like User:ChrisGriswold, User:Pepso, User:CovenantD, User:Steve_block and many others. Welcome, man!--Tenebrae 05:15, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Faux Pas

Thanks for the note and for the favorable vote on the Talk:List of faux pas page.

After I posted my note there, I noticed that there was a discussion at Talk:Wikitravel on the legal difficulties of moving material from Wikipedia to Wikitravel due to the fact that they use different Licensing schemes. I posed a question on that page and I'm waiting to see what comes of it.

In any case, see you around the wiki! --Elipongo 21:15, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Username Barnstar

I wish there was a username barnstar... 68.39.174.238 17:24, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Merci beaucoup. I created the name “House of Scandal” in 1995 while organizing and publicizing a charity event in Boston’s South End. The name was inspired by the film Paris is Burning and I have used it ever since.

[edit] Bodhrán edit

Thanks for the kind words regarding my edit of the Bodhrán article. I am sorry for screwing up the footnotes. They may have been broken when I cut-and-pasted between Wikipedia and WordPerfect in order to spellcheck. I will be very mindful of that in the future. Or better yet, I should take a few minutes and see if there is an easier way to spellcheck. Wik On!

HouseOfScandal 18:08, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

  • You're most welcome. Me, I use MS Word, and with great trepidation as I know how Word goes "AutoFormat" crazy sometimes. One o' these days, I'll explore these external editors that WikiGurus seem to be using. Or maybe I'll create a Word template for my own use ... in my copious free time. Maybe I'll call it WikiPerfect.David Spalding TalkContribs
  • Ha-ha, your salute makes me think of the painting shanty, e.g. "Wik on, Wik off ... Wik on, Wik off...." :) David Spalding TalkContribs

[edit] St. John

Yes, I just realised that his first name was Harry and he was known as St. John. I think one needs to say he is known as St. John, but I stand by my thinking the pronunciation obvious, however, I shan't object to its reinsertion, perhaps in a clearer way.--Couter-revolutionary 19:07, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Duke of Normandy

You wrote to Scolaire:

Salutations. I've no objections to the recent changes you made to my work on the Duke of Normandy article. I'm glad whenever I discover that someone has read my work and deemed it decent enough to make only minor alterations. Rather, I have a specific question: Do Wikipedia guidelines indicate that one should avoid links in title lines? If so I am eager to follow this model in the future.

Another minor question: I noticed you just made an edit to the relatively obscure article on Milo O'Shea. I edited that article yesterday as well. Were you wandering in my contribution tracks (I do that to others sometimes, although no one has ever mentioned that they noticed me) or is that just coincidence?

Best wishes.

HouseOfScandal 13:11, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm fairly sure that Wikipedia guidelines indicate that one should avoid links in headings. Unfortunately I can't remember which guideline or where I read it. But I tend to remove them wherever I find them.

I was watching Duke of Normandy just because it covers a period of history that interests me. I was very impressed with your edits, and I clicked your contributions to see if we had anything else in common. I was a big fan of Milo O'Shea as a child, and I have a particular love of that particular version of Ulysses, hence the edit.
Regards,
Scolaire 19:17, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Etiquette in Europe

Thanks for being understanding about my edits there. The tag I added actually isn't a lock, just a maintenance tag. I'm not an admin, so I don't have the power to lock the article or anything like that. I already went ahead and removed it since it looks like you've made headway – hope that's alright as well. Good work on Etiquette in Europe – I can see why it would take a while to put together now. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 01:20, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spellings

Hi HouseOfScandal - can I point out the Wikipedia:Manual of Style#National varieties of English - when writing topics concerning a locatable topic, the page should use the spelling appropriate to that area, e.g. Irish English (very similar to British English) for the Dún Aengus article, Commonwealth English for Asian trees, etc.; so 'metre', 'neighbouring', and so on - thanks, MPF 01:33, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the reminder. I knew that in the back of my mind and have applied those principles while making edits, but it has slipped my mind recently, including while I created the Dún Aengus article. HouseOfScandal 01:47, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old Timeyness

I must admit you are right about my article Old Timeyness. The concept of "Old Timeyness" is one I independentantly recognized. I know Wikipedia isn't the place for original research, but I doubt that no one else has recognized this phenominon besides myself. I am going to do some frantic web surfing and see if I can substantiate my observations. Thanks for the "nicely written" comment, and thanks for being a sharp Wikipundit. HouseOfScandal 09:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Try moving it to "talk:nostalgia/old timeyness" or "talk:anachronism/old timeyness" and link to it from the parent talk page. That way you get it on Wikipedia and no one is likely to prod it. Or try calling it "Cultural references to the end of the nineteenth century". -- RHaworth 09:28, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] B.A.A.

Thanks for moving all the BAA stuff out of the Boston Marathon page and onto the Boston Athletic Association. That really needed doing. I think the Marathon page itself is in need of some serious cleanup and organization, and that's a good first step. --Pjmorse 14:26, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Perkins Manor

Hi there. Thanks for the note and especially thanks for the interesting info about Perkins Manor and the people associated with it. I live in Merrimack County, New Hampshire, and had never heard of Perkins Manor, so it makes me want to go check it out! -- Ken Gallager 13:39, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Welds

I'd just like to thank you for your contributions to both the Weld Family article, and to that on Charles Goddard Weld which I originally wrote. Though I'm admittedly not normally one for American history, particularly local history, I became quite interested in the stories of certain prominent Bostonians & New Englanders during my time as an intern at the MFA. ... So, thanks again for your extensive work on such an interesting and oftoverlooked element of history. (Plus, it's always fun to meet another Bostonian here on the 'pedia!) LordAmeth 23:12, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you greatly LordAmeth; our paths have crossed a few times and probably will again. For example, I had just expanded the Japanese Maple article when you added the kanji. As you are a Nipponophile with a Boston connection, I wonder if you noticed my Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection article that is mentioned on the "Did you know?" section on the Wikipedia main page beneith your article? It might interest you. Thanks again and best wishes. HouseOfScandal 23:50, 6 December 2006

[edit] Boston

Good work on this article; could you just clarify the last paragraph under St. Andrew's Parish - it reads as if the school closed twice !?... From the references, was it the Catholic parish that closed in 2000?; if so, is the St. Andrew's church building still there? (You may see I've upgraded the link from St. Andrew's Church.) Thanks! -- Carbonix 12:04, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind words and thanks for paying close attention. Yes, you caught a typo. The text now reads:

"St. Andrew's Church closed in 2000 although funeral masses are sometimes still held there. St. Andrew's School closed at the end of school year 2005."

Best wishes. HouseOfScandal 22:18, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your input on the merging of Fenway-Kenmore and Kenmore square - You made some very good points and I will remove the merging. On a side note if you would like to assit I am looking for persons to join Project Boston in order to clean up and expand wikipedia articles directly related to Boston. Give it a thought. Markco1 05:11, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Sure, it would be a good idea for me to consolidate my efforts with those of others. For example, I did a lot of work on the Mission Hill article many weeks ago and it should probably be taken off the list of places that need work. If you glance at My User Page you'll see I have been pretty busy working on Greater Boston-related topics already. I am in the middle of an unrelated edit at the moment, but shortly I'll take a close look at the project page. Peace. HouseOfScandal 05:27, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

I see that you already have your own personal Boston Project at your fingers but thanks for coming on board. I look fowards to working with you. Markco1 00:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

In regards to taking Forest Hills, Boston GA. I made a few comments on the page that I feel can be used to enhance the user experience on the page. Let me know what you think and if you would like me to jump in and help out. Markco1 17:55, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A little attention for HouseOfScandal

Here you go, a little attention for you: ::::And can you imagine how I would have felt if you had actually read anything the first time, like maybe feeling the need to reread my post? Nope. No surprise that not having read what you removed, you don't want to discuss the article. So, why not stick with what you wrote, something about not engaging in this dialogue. Oh, well, again, you don't appear to read what you write any more than what you delete, or agree with what you say, so how can I won't value what you say any more than you do.
