[edit] Synopsis

While driving through Louisiana on their way to a college football game, six teenagers (Carly, Wade, Nick (Chad Michael Murray), Dalton, Wade, Paige (Paris Hilton) stop at a camp site and wake up the next day discover that the fanbelt on one of their cars is broken. Four of them get back on the interstate to press onto the game, while two others (Carly and Wade, who are a couple) hitch a ride into the nearby town of Ambrose where they run into Bo, the local automechanic who agrees to sell them a new fanbelt. While they wait for him, they explore the House of Wax, a wax museum made entirely out of wax. Soon Wade is captured, tortured and turned into a wax figure by Bo's deranged twin brother, Vincent, while Bo comes pursuing Carly through the town and she realizes all the wax figures are actually dead bodies encased in wax.

Nick, Carly's brother, rescues his sister from Bo after Bo snatches her off into the gas station basement. Dalton, one of the other teens, is beheaded by Vincent, after attempting to save Wade, who finally dies of shock when Vincent slashes off his face while lunging for Dalton, and Paige and her boyfriend are killed by Vincent when Vincent comes after them at the camp site.

Nick and Carly, meanwhile, hide from Bo in the movie theatre showing the old black and white film, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane to an audience of wax figures when Bo comes after them with a rifle but Nick shoots him with a crossbow. Nick and Carly go back to Bo's house to look for Wade and Dalton when Bo and Vincent show up and chase them through an underground tunnel connecting their house with the house of wax. In the basement of the house of wax, a flaming cauldron of boiling wax is knocked over, causing a fire that makes the whole house of wax start to buckle and melt. Carly beats Bo to death with a baseball bat and then stabs Vincent in the front; he then drowns in the melted wax. Carly and her brother crawl through the oozing wax and barely escape alive.

[edit] Box office

Opening in 3,111 theaters, the movie grossed a moderate $12 million in its first three days. Though most critics were not impressed, HOW earned a decent $68,766,121 worldwide. 46.6% of that total came from domestic receipts. It also earned $42,000,000 in Vhs/DVD rentals according to Rottentomatoes.

[edit] Lawsuit

In January 2006 it was announced by Warner Roadshow studio owners Village Theme Park Management and Warner World Australia that they were suing special effects expert David Fletcher and Wax Productions because of a fire on the set during production.

The $7 million lawsuit alleges that the Mr. Fletcher and Wax Productions were grossly negligent over the fire which destroyed part of the Gold Coast's Warner Roadshow studios. The alleged grounds of negligence included not having firefighters on stand-by and using timber props near a naked flame.[1]
