Hotel Bristol
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scores - perhaps hundreds - of hotels throughout the world have carried the name "Bristol" since the early 19th century. Such hotels were usually upscale and offered Western style accommodations to world travellers. There is no indication that the hotels had any connection with each other outside of the name which implied the promise of quality. The number of Bristol Hotels probably peaked prior to 1920. Several possible origins of the name include the association with the English whaling city of Bristol or the supposed endorsement of past Lords, Bishops or Earls of Bristol. Few Bristol hotels remain today, but from the Victorian Golden Age of Travel, many of their colorful and elegant luggage labels are the centerpieces of ephemera collections as shown in the imbedded image.
One notable current Hotel Bristol is a five-star luxury hotel in Vienna, Austria. It is located at the Ringstraße.
Today it is one of the most expensive and exclusive hotels in Vienna. It is located right next to the Staatsoper.
