Hot press

For the music magazine, see Hot Press (magazine).

The hot press is the location in a house where clothes are placed for airing, and is typically found in Irish homes. A hot water immersion heater is normally situated within the hot press. This is used to heat water for many different purposes, including for washing the dishes (in those homes that do not have a dishwasher) or for bathing/showering purposes, as well as other forms of self-cleansing. The immersion can be turned on and off via a switch. The term hot press is unique to Ireland, as in other countries it is known simply as an airing cupboard.
