Hosur Road
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hosur Road is a road which connects Bangalore to Hosur. It is a National Highway of India and is maintained by the NHAI National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It is a 4 lane highway with service lanes on either sides of the road (though not in the complete stretch of hosur road).
The 10 odd km stretch between Madiwala and Electronic City (EC) is the best part of this road. It takes around 1 hour during peak hours (8am to 10am & 5pm to 8pm) on a day with good traffic flow (if I can use that word) to reach Madiwala from EC and vice versa. In case of any enroute breakdowns or accidents, the travel time is anybody's guess. As per the traffic norms, heavy vehicles are not allowed between the EC and Madiwala stretch between 7am to 10am and 5pm to 9pm. Unfortunately, no strict checks seems to be in place to enforce the above.
This road is used by the people working in the offices located in and near EC. There are numerous other offices located along the Hosur road as well. This, being the national highway, is also (ab)used by the trucks and transport buses plying between Bangalore and the state of Tamil Nadu. The indiscipline while driving on this road has resulted into many two-wheeler drivers losing their lives. Part of the blame can also be redirected to the victim of the accident as the helmet rule, though mandatory, is not implemented stringently.
Popular tourist attractions on this road are:
- Bommanahalli junction
- Central jail (slightly off Hosur road)
- Electronics City
As per the plan drawn up by the NHAI, EC association of private companies and the Karnataka State Government, an elevated highway will be constructed above the Hosur road connecing EC to Madiwala. If that happens it would be a dream come true for the poor souls who have to spend hours fighting for their way in this war zone. [As per the latest news, work on this has already begin. A 9KM elevated road will run between Silkboard Junction and EC and is slated to be completed by June 2008]
Best time to be on this road on weekdays:
- Before 08:00 hours & after 12:00 hours
- Before 17:00 hours & after 21:00 hours
