Hospete ಹೊಸ್ಪೇಟೆ, formerly 'Hospet' is a city in Bellary District in northern Karnataka, India. The modern name is abbreviated from the original Hosapattana. In ancient days it was known as Nagalapura. The town is best known today for its proximity to the ruined city of Vijayanagara. It serves as a transport and accommodation centre for tourists visiting the ruins.

Its tourist importance lies in its proximity to Hampi, the site of the medieval Vijayanagar Empire, situated about 12 km away. The Tungabhadra Dam here harnesses the sweet waters of the Tungabhadra River. At the base of the dam is a garden, styled along Japanese lines. It is known for its hospitality towards foreigners who visit to the place. Also Kishkinda, a water park situated just 5 km from Hospet, is an attraction for the tourists.

On the occasion of "SUVARNA KARNATAKA" the "HOSPET" city will be named as "HOSAPETE".Also 10 cities of Suvarna Karnataka are renamed from November first marking the Kannada Rajyotsava day.

The 10 cities are: Bengalooru (Bangalore), Mysooru (Mysore), Mangalooru (Mangalore), Chikmagalooru (Chikmagalur), Shivamogga (Shimoga), Belagaavi (Belgaum), Kalburgi (Gulbarga), Hubballi (Hubli), Hosapete (Hospet) and Tumakooru (Tumkur).

Hospet is connected by road and rail to Bangalore (352 km), Bellary, Hubli-Dharward, Gadag, Bijapur and many other places. Nearest Airport is Toranagal in midway between Hosapete and Bellary. Hubballi Airport is 150 Km from Hosapete.The pin code of Hospet is 583201. KSRTC and SVK ply buses interstate and locally. Hotel business will boom with the advent of introduction of Hosapete into the Aviation map from 15th Nov.Many state and national movies were shot in and around Hosapete. Many software proffessionals at Bangalore hail from Hosapete city.

Education: Hosapete has an Engineering college. Vijayanagar college is catering the needs of PUC and BA, BCom amd BSc and related fields. Important schools in Hosapete include Little Flower School, Deepayana School, Narmada School and Government School and Girls High School. Important areas in Hosapete include Amaravathi, Chithwadagi, Mrutyunjayanagar, Ranipet, Basaveshwara nagar, etc.

Recently Hospet has been developing at a very high rate due to the boom in the mining business. Hospet and the adjacent areas are surrounded with iron ore mines. Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Plant is 33 km from Hospet and is one of the largest producer of steel in India and largest COREX plant in Asia. The Baldota's MSPL and Gogga Brothers are at the forefront in the mining business. People of the Hosapete city are cordial and treat guests well. It has a moderate climate like Bangaluru and attracts lots of residents to stay at Hosapete.
