Monsters are common in horror fiction and film. This DVD cover shows horror characters as depicted by Universal Studios. Elsa Lanchester from Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Claude Rains from The Invisible Man (1933), Bela Lugosi from Dracula (1931), Claude Rains from Phantom of the Opera (1943), "The Creature" from Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Boris Karloff from Frankenstein (1931), Lon Chaney Jr. from The Wolf Man (1941) and Boris Karloff from The Mummy (1932).

A screenshot from George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead (1968) -- a young zombie (Kyra Schon) and her victim (Karl Hardman). Due to the filmmakers' neglect of the (former) requirement to put proper notice on copies of their work, this image and the film it is from are in the public domain.

This is a newly and finely bound in mustard-yellow morocco in imitation of the original cloth binding: lettered in red on spine and upper cover, single-line border tooled in red on sides, marbled end papers, all edges gilt. This is a scan of the cover for a first edition, later issue, with the advertisement for “The Shoulder of Shasta” at the back. Bound by The Chelsea Bindery.

The shadow of the vampire is seen climbing stairs in this famous scene from the 1922 film Nosferatu. This image is public domain both by date and the fact that the original work was deemed too derivative of the copyright on Dracula and was ordered destroyed.
