Horus Rising is a Science Fiction novel by Dan Abnett based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe and publised by the Black Library. The story is set 10,000 years before the timeframe of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, and expands upon the tale of the Horus Heresy, the galaxy's greatest civil war and the root cause of many issues in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Horus Rising, as the title suggests, details the rise to power of Warmaster Horus, Primarch of the Luna Wolves, after the Emperor appointed him commander of the Imperial military. Much of the focus is on the captain of the Luna Wolves' Tenth Company, Garviel Loken, as he becomes a member of the Mournival (an advisory body to Horus) and his involvement in campaigns against traitors and aliens at the close of the Great Crusade.

[edit] Inconsistencies within the Warhammer 40,000 universe

  • In Horus Rising, the Blood Angels Primarch, Sanguinius, is described as having dark hair, although all other sources within the Warhammer 40,000 universe portray him as having blonde hair.
