Hortator
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hortator is a Latin name of the officer on a galley that was responsible for the training and morale of the crew, and for coordinating the rowing. The Greek name is Keleustes.
Hortator is also a fictional political and military title in the game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, part of The Elder Scrolls series of computer games.
A Hortator is a specially chosen champion and war leader among the Great Houses of Morrowind. It is a special position in the House hierarchy, only used in times of duress or particular uncertainty. A Hortator may or may not be a House member, and the same person must be declared Hortator by multiple houses.
During the course of the main quest in Morrowind, the player is required to convince the houses Hlaalu , Redoran, and Telvanni, the three Great Houses featured in the game, to select them as Hortator. Completing this task relates to one of the prophecies in the game proving that the player's character is the Nerevarine, the reincarnation of the hero Nerevar.
