From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horst Freiherr Treusch und Buttlar-Brandenfels was a German general.

He commanded the German 11th Panzer Division in May 1945.

General Von Wietersheim negotiated with the American Third army through the Headquarters of the 90 U.S. Infantry division. Once surrender arrangements had been completed Von Wietersheim began moving the 11 Panzer Division toward the American lines.

When General Treusch von Buttlar found out about Von Wietersheim activities he led a small detachment of military police in an effort to intercept and stop the surrender and arrest Von Wietersheim. However, he was unable to stop the surrender.

The source for this account was taken from the interrogation reports of General Von Wietersheim and his adjutant, in the records of the US 90th Infantry division in the collection of the US National Arhcives.
