Horsens municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Vejle County on the east coast of the Jutland peninsula in central Denmark. The municipality is the second largest in Vejle county after Kolding municipality. The municipality includes the island of Endelave, and covers an area of 189 km². It has a total population of 58,560 (2005). Its mayor is Jan Trøjborg, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the city of Horsens.
Neighboring municipalities are Brædstrup and Gedved to the north, Tørring-Uldum to the west, and Juelsminde and Hedensted to the south. To the east is Horsens Fjord.
The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined the city of Horsens with a number of existing parishes:
- Endelave Parish
- Hansted Parish
- Hatting Parish
- Kloster Parish
- Lundum Parish
- Nebel Parish
- Sønderbro Parish
- Tamdrup Parish
- Torsted Parish
- Tyrsted Parish
- Uth Parish
- Vær Parish
By January 1, 2007 Horsens municipality will, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007), be merged with existing Brædstrup (except for Voerladegård Parish) and Gedved municipalities to form a new Horsens municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 542 km² and a total population of ca. 80,000.
