Mathilda Karel Spak, frequently known as Karel Spak, ran in the 2003 California gubernatorial election. She is a Long Beach resident, previously from Chicago. She is more than 104 years old. She was diagnosed with lung cancer in the 1920's, at twenty-one. She volunteers at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, now forty-five years. She began volunteering there, & @ Miller Children’s Hospital, in 1961.
She graduated Northwestern University & became one of Chicago's earliest women licensed realtors, & women licensed insurance brokers.
In 2002 a Long Beach 99 Cents Only Store celebrated her ninety-nine years (which would be the beginning of her one hundredth).
