Hope is a town in Bartholomew County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,140 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Columbus, Indiana metropolitan statistical area.

Hope is located at 39°17′60″N, 85°46′0″W (39.299971, -85.766801)^GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.5 km² (0.9 mi²), all land.

The motto of Hope is, "A Surprising Little Town'"

Hope is home to Hauser Junior-Senior High School. It's part of the Flatrock-Hawcreek School Corporation. The principal is Tim Stephens, and the asst. principal is Kim Harsh. The school mascot is the Jets, and school colors are black and white. The school's athletic teams have been very successful in recent years. In 2005, the boys baseball team was Class A state runners-up. In 2006, the boys basketball team, coached by Bob Nobbe, defeated Tri-Central to capture the Class A state championship. Senior center, Bobby Joliff, set state (single and multiple class formats) records in several categories in the game.

As of the census^GR2 of 2000, there were 2,140 people, 788 households, and 594 families residing in the town. The population density was 869.7/km² (2,242.3/mi²). There were 849 housing units at an average density of 345.1/km² (889.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.50% White, 0.51% African American, 0.19% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.40% of the population.

There were 788 households out of which 40.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.6% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% were non-families. 20.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the town the population was spread out with 30.8% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 99.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $33,347, and the median income for a family was $38,875. Males had a median income of $30,690 versus $21,681 for females. The per capita income for the town was $14,099. About 10.2% of families and 11.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.2% of those under age 18 and 12.4% of those age 65 or over.
