[edit] Image:Methos002.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Methos002.jpg. Its copyright status is unclear, so it may have to be deleted. Please leave a note on the image page about the source of the image. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags, for a list of copyright tags, that you can use. Thank you. <>Who?¿? 7 July 2005 08:32 (UTC)

  • I'm still new at this submitting any kind of articles. How do I put a copyright on most pics I submitted? And will people will editing too, because I certainly hopes so. Thank you.

Hi, it is fairly simple. You can see the copyright tags here, and then you return to the image you uploaded, Edit the image, just like you edit a normal article. If the image happens to be a screenshot, then you can use {{screenshot}}, all of these tags are listed on the copyright tags page.

If you would like to see all the images that you uploaded, you can do that by clicking My contributions at the top of the page, and it will show you all the articles/images you have worked on.

Other editors may add tags to your images, if they do not know where the image came from; such as {{unverified}} or {{no source}}. You can remove those tags, if you replace them with the appropriate tag, a URL may be helpful too. If you are not sure which tag to use, provide the URL of where you got the image, and use {{fair use}} tag.

Hope that helps, feel free to ask any more questions. <>Who?¿? 7 July 2005 08:47 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Duncan.gif

I was looking at the 2 highlander shots you added the copyright tags to. The shot in particular, Image:Duncan.gif, does not seem like a screen shot to me at all. I think it needs some sort of other tag. --ZeWrestler 7 July 2005 12:20 (UTC)

  • i don't know what kind of other tag, this is new for me...maybe you can help me? i've been reading the templates, and it's pretty confusing 'cause english my second language. i got the images from various websites years ago, i don't even remember where did i get the image. if you could just help editing the article and images, that would be great. thanks. HoneyBee 7 July 2005 15:29 (UTC)
    • hmm. best bet i can think of is finding the websites you got them from. then maybe we might be able to list them with a proper tag that wont have them deleted. if not, we might have to delete them and find new images. best i can tell you right now, if you have any other questions just let me know. --ZeWrestler 7 July 2005 15:38 (UTC)

[edit] question about image

hi, how do i make an image appear smaller? or maybe can you help me with this article about the highlander series, thanks...

When you use the image tag, you can put "thumb" and then the size, like "150px", for example. You can experiment with the number of pixels to make it bigger or smaller. Here is an example of how it would look.
[[Image:image.jpg|thumb|right|150px|Put image description here]]

Also, see: Wikipedia:Extended image syntax, for other ways to use the image tag.

[edit] question about deleting an article

i just wanna ask whether people can just delete other people's article...because mine is just been deleted... i tried to do according to the rules and regulations like copyright, images, links and all. but if other people can just delete other articles, that would be a waste of time, right? i don't mind if people editing, their contribution would be appreciate it. but if they just going to delete the whole thing, why bother writing an article? i know you've been in this wikipedia thing a long time than me, is there anything i should know about making an article?

Hi, which article was it? I dont think it will show up in your contribs, if it was deleted. But, NO, any normal user cannot delete your article. It either got speedy deleted (admin only), or it got put on votes for deletion. If you give me the name of it, I can look.

Also, part of the reason I welcome people, is some of the links provided, have topics on how to create and edit articles. I should probably go through it and make sure all the links are clear and helpful. I dont mind helping you find any information on article editing/style, I learned mostly by just looking at the code others used, and of course the sandbox. Get back to me with the name of that other article, and we'll go from there. <>Who?¿? 07:48, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Duncan MacLeod

it seems they are trying to edit the page, but by erasing the most part

Hi, I looked at its history, and only one other person edited the article, besdies yourself. If you look here, it seems you accidentally deleted a section when you saved. This happens sometimes, jsut becareful, but you can always go back to a previous saved version by using history.

It hasn't been put on Vfd, or you would have seen a large banner (see this {{Vfd}} for example) on the top. And, yes, If it does get put on Vfd, all users have the opportunity to vote.

You mentioned English is not your first language? Have you been to the other language sites of Wikipedia? Not that I don't want you here :) , just want to make sure you know of the several languages that Wiki is in. I'm going to look at the links I provided at the top in the welcome, and get back with you later with some possible good help topics on editing. By the way, you can put brackets [[ ]], anywhere on wiki, to point to an article on wiki. Duncan MacLeod. <>Who?¿? 08:12, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] question

how do you answer user's question who doesn't have a talk page? i'm also trying to edit the image to copyright, how do i do that? thanks... (HoneyBee)

  • It's just like starting a new page, if you click on their user page link, then choose discussion at the top, and choose edit, it will create the discussion page. So if you wanted to reply to 80.178.180.107, then you just goto their talk page and edit and save it.
To edit an image, just goto the image (Watcher.jpg) page, hit edit and add the relevant copyright tag in the description. Example {{fairuse}}

[edit] personal pic

Hi, if I put a personal pic to my user page, should I put a copyright tag too? And can I delete the pic (from the image page) if I decided later on not to put it? Thanks.... HoneyBee 08:50, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi, yep, you can pretty much put whatever you want on your userpage.. And if you took the picture, or a friend, then put {{PD-self}} as the copyright tag. If you ever want to delete it, put {{db}} tag on it. Example: {{db|As the creator of this image, I request deletion}}.

Hope that answers your questions. :) Who?¿? 09:37, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

Oh, btw, I fixed a red link to The Lord of the Rings on your userpage ;-p Who?¿? 09:42, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Highlander

Usually if the entry was taken from a website, if verbatim, they consider it a copyvio. Even with the encyclopedia britannica 1911, although it has not copyright status, some editors will flag it, if the text and formatting is not changed. I am not sure what particular sections are being considered that, my suggestion would be to ensure that the entries are not a verbatim copy. Make some changes to sentence structure and wording. Although I agree that some text on websites should be considered fairuse, it can still be argued that its the work of the editor, and not such. Hope that helps. Who?¿? 02:11, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Ahh, yea, I see what they are getting at. Best thing to do, is make a copy of the article on a sub-page like Episodes of Highlander (Season 1)/temp, and then edit the synopsis to not be even close to the original. I see that a few of them are worded very different, and some aren't, its just best to make sure that they arent close. As far as the style and layout, I see no probs, as its pretty common. Just make a note on the talk page that you are doing a temp page, and provide the link, so that users involved know what's happening. Who?¿? 05:30, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

Yea, they shouldn't delete it right away, especially if you make a note on the talk page. Your welcome to use anything off my page, but the wikistress meter isn't mine, its a wiki thing :). Use it like {{wstress3d|1|200px|My current stress level}}; changing the 1 to 1-4, and the comment at the end is for whatever you want, oh and of course you can change the size too :) Just in case, I just made a special version, 4a, if you get really stressed out. You can see it in use here. Who?¿? 05:59, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] question regarding pics

Hi, most of the articles that I make contains pics which already in my computer files, some of them are even 10 years old. I got those pics from the internet, God knows which websites I don't remember, some of them aren't even exist anymore. Now, how do I put the tag for those pics? Copyright? Screenshot? I don't want them to get deleted if there aren't proper tag. What should I do? Thanks. HoneyBee

Hi again. Hmm, that's a tough one with the new copyright rules. You can use {{screenshot}} for anything that is of course a screenshot of tv/web/computer etc.., however, these can only be used to describe the show/website/program they were actually taken from. As far as pictures of celebrities or misc people, if they were taken by a professional photographer, they have to be labeled as such, and their usage is now completely limited, if allowed at all. It really depends on the image and it's usage, and to be honest, I haven't even caught up with the new copyright rules in use. I would be willing to look at any you have already uploaded, if you need. I can refer you to someone more experienced with the new rules, if you need further assistance with proper tagging. «»Who?¿?meta 13:40, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Sure, I can help. First, if you don't know the source, don't guess. If you can figure out what the use is (i.e., screenshot or fairuse) then tag it as such. Otherwise, the images can't be used here. The best person I can think of on image issues is User:Kelly Martin. KM can help you figure out which ones are which; I'd be happy to go through a list and makea guess at it if you'd like. -- Essjay · Talk 15:07, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: question about pics

Hi, I just added a pic (Richie Ryan ). I got the pic from my file, and I had it for years, and I really don't remember where I got it. So what kind of tag I should put? I am making articles about Highlander:The Series and its characters. Pretty much confused here, and I don't want to be blocked or something... Thanks. HoneyBee

If you do not recall where you found the original, you must not upload the image. Our image use policy requires that all images used on Wikipedia be sourced, meaning that they have a statement indicating who created them. I'm afraid that if you can't remember where it came from, it will have to be deleted. Kelly Martin (talk) 12:55, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
At Kelly's request, I searched for the two images on the Richie Ryan (Highlander) page. I found a place where you might've gotten Image:Richieryan.jpg, but I can't determine its copyright status. Image:Rich123.jpg, however, doesn't exist in that form anywhere in Google's index. There's an image that looks like it might be the same original picture, only shrunk down and given a dodgy border, but that's clearly not your source. I've tagged both images appropriately. Cheers, fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 13:55, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for your message on my talk page. If you find an image on the Internet that's identical to one on your hard disk, I reckon you could probably cite it as a source – citing sources does more than just indicate where we got an image from, it also gives a hint on what the copyright status is.
I don't think the image copyright holders have released all rights. I suspect Image:Richieryan.jpg might be a promotional photograph and therefore possibly usable under the doctrine of fair use, but a) we need some evidence that it is a promotional photograph before we can use it (just in case we're wrong), and b) it looks like I might be wrong about what makes a promophoto, so I can't guarantee that it would be usable even if we did know precisely where it came from.
Kelly thinks that Image:Rich123.jpg might be a cropped screenshot from Highlander. I wouldn't know, not having watched the programme (I don't even know if it's available in Australia), but if you can tell us whether or not it's an image that has appeared on the programme, that would be great. A screenshot would be fair use to illustrate the character of Richie Ryan (Highlander), and possibly (we haven't resolved this question) Stan Kirsch as well. --fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 07:46, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

Hey, yes, any editor can add just about any tag to any page they feel necessary, with good reason. so feel free to add the {{cleanup}} (the {{cleanup-date}} tag is preferable though) tag to pages you think need some serious help. [edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Csonri.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Csonri.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 04:31, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Linking to Highlander: The Series

Hello there...

I was going through the Highlander: The Series links, and found a redirect page from Highlander:The Series. You may not automatically see the difference, but there is one...

Highlander: The Series
Highlander:The Series

The space between the colon (:) and the word "The" is the correct way of linking to the series page. The remaining links to Highlander:The Series are on your userpage and in comments you have left elsewhere. Would you please be so kind as to alter those links to go directly to the article Highlander: The Series? You can find them by going to the What Links Here page of Highlander: The Series or Highlander:The Series page.

Thanks!

Sorry, these are WireImage.com photos. You can't use them on Wikipedia without permission, according to policy. Thanks, adnghiem501 09:25, 20 February 2006 (UTC) I've forgotten two more things: I've removed them from Al Pacino, then I've listed them at WP:IFD on Feb 20. adnghiem501 09:33, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Just a note to say that they can never be used as the images are a whole work so not fair use whereas screenshots are only a very small part of a whole work. So in these cases only use screenshots or free images if they are availiable. Arniep 15:55, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Joedawson.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Joedawson.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. [edit] License tagging for Image:Mc308.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Mc308.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

yeah, i know. forgot about them. maybe you should put it under the family members category.
