This plane bears a strong superficial resemblance to the BAE Hawk - is it a license-built copy? (Mmartins 02:03, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC))

I should probably clarify. While the Hawk was evidently a baseline from which the Hongdu designers began, it's wrong to say that the JL-8 is a direct copy of the Hawk. More like it's what the Hawk would have been had it decided to remain cheap and simple instead of becoming the advanced Lead-In Fighter Trainer it is today. — Impi 10:27, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
