Honkytonk University is an album by country music superstar Toby Keith, released in 2005. The album has been certified double platinum for sales of in excess of 2 million units.
"Honkytonk U" was the first single to be released from the album, breaking the country top 10. "As Good As I Once Was" was the album's smash-hit, spending 7 weeks atop the Billboard country singles chart. "Big Blue Note", the third and final release from the album, reached the top 5 of the country singles chart with its video topping CMT's video countdown for multiple weeks.
All of the tracks are either written by Keith or co-written by Keith and long-time friend and writing and touring partner, Scotty Emerick, the singer-songwriter. The album showcases a number of Keith's stylistic influences. Honkytonk U features the band of the late Outlaw country legend Waylon Jennings and is set to Jennings' trademark lope. Elsewhere, She Aint Hooked on Me No More epitomizes the neo-traditionalist strand of Keith's work. A duet featuring veteran country legend, Merle Haggard, it reflects the old-school flavour of much of the album.
The album was produced by James Stroud.
The album is the follow-up to 2003's Shock'n Y'all. It was followed in 2006 by White Trash with Money.
