Hong Kong Warty Newt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hong Kong Warty Newts make good pets because they are only aggressive when another male is near their female. As the name implies these newts are found in Hong Kong and near Vietnam. They eat worms, guppies, crickets, bloodworm and other live food. . The males have thicker back legs compared to the females, and during the mating season develop a crest on their tails, while the babies are black with white noses and gills. Hong Kong Newts can live up to 4-6 years in captivity. Hong Kong Newts should not be kept in anything smaller than a three gallon tank, or they could become stressed. They must receive adequate light or could develop a certain fungus that can be fatal in some cases. Generally they should not be kept with newts that are smaller than them because they could be eaten.
