Hong Kong Sprint

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hong Kong Sprint is a Group 1 flat horse race in Hong Kong for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds at Sha Tin Racecourse in mid December. It was first run in 1999 and is one of the four Hong Kong International Races. It attained Group 1 status in 2002.

The race is now the final leg in the Global Sprint Challenge series, preceded by the Sprinters Stakes.

From 2006, in an effort to attract higher quality sprinters from overseas, the distance of the race was extended to 1,200 metres (roughly 6 furlongs), having previously been set at 1,000 metres (5 furlongs).
