I think it's uncanny that the Enterprise encounters a giant sentient crystalline being (the crystalline entity) in Season 1, and then discovers a small sentient crystalline being in the same season (in "Home Soil"). If these two beings are not the same race/species, then they must at least be related. I am shocked that the crew didn't at least speculate about this possibility in "Home Soil".
