Hollywood North
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Hollywood North", an allusion to Hollywood, California as the most notable film centre in North America, is a nickname for Vancouver, British Columbia, which is North America's third-largest film and television production centre.[citation needed] The term is sometimes also used in reference to the Canadian television and film industry as a whole.
Part of the reason for the linkage between Hollywood and Vancouver is that Vancouver and Los Angeles are sister cities, and they are also less than three hours apart by air. Typically, also, Vancouver productions are L.A.-based, while Toronto has the lion's share of Canadian production.[citation needed]
Other popular filming destinations associated with the broader meaning of Hollywood North are Victoria, Calgary, Winnipeg, Halifax and Montreal. All of these have become a very popular filming destination in recent years.[citation needed]
