TV.com summary

Hollyoaks is a British soap opera set in and around the fictional Chester suburb of the same name and filmed mainly at the Mersey Television studios in nearby Liverpool. Hollyoaks was originally devised by Phil Redmond, who also devised shows such as Brookside and Grange Hill.

Hollyoaks began in 1995. The soap is centred around a former 1950s technical college which is now a college of higher education called Hollyoaks Community College (often mistaken for the real-life University of Chester) with the characters and main target audience generally being in their late teens or early twenties. Produced by Mersey Television, the show currently broadcasts at 6:30pm every weekday on Channel 4 with an omnibus edition on Sunday morning, usually at 9.50am but this can vary. At 7pm, immediately after the weekday Channel 4 broadcast, the episode for the next day is shown on E4. Channel 4's Welsh equivalent, S4C, broadcasts the Sunday omnibus only. Hollyoaks is also shown in other countries, such as Canada, on the BBC Kids channel. The programme is known for launching the careers of Will Mellor, Jodi Albert, Gary Lucy, Elize Du Toit, Jeremy Edwards and James Redmond.

Hollyoaks has received numerous awards over the years and raised awareness of issues such as teen pregnancy, abortion, bereavement and male rape/date rape.

[edit] The Barnes family

Amy enjoys playing the part of troublesome teenager and rebellious younger sister to the full. As such she's not always held in the best regard by the rest of her family. Her friend Michaela pressured her into having sex with short-term boyfriend Ste, however, after she was reluctant to sleep with him again he dumped her. Michaela also turned against her best friend leaving Amy devastated, but both have since made up. She also stole a written story from her father, Mike, and used it in a writing competition. She won the writing competition but was feeling very guilty but Michaela told her to lie to her parents. On the 8th June Amy was caught shoplifting by Max and Tom Cunningham. Michaela got away, but Amy's mum Kathy and sister Sarah were disgusted by Amy. She has recently seemed to cause her mother nothing but trouble. She overheard her Mum and Dad arguing, and her Mum calling her "trailer trash", which upset her. She made matters worse on her birthday when she snuck out of the house despite the party that her family were putting on. After she came in drunk, Mike lost his temper and ordered her out of his sight. She has recently found out that she is pregnant after an unusually supportive Michaela advised her to take the test after she had been sick, only for it to confirm Amy's fears. On Kathy's birthday, Amy was just about to tell Kathy she was pregnant when Gilly let slip that Rhys - Sarah's ex-boyfriend - had slept with Kathy. Kathy was thrown out of the family home by Mike and Amy was devastated and has yet to tell her family the news of her pregnancy. She went for an abortion but didn't go through with it, as told to Michaela. Quite recently she joined Mike and Sarah after arguing with her mum, saying she doesn't care and she doesn't listen. Trying to forget her unwanted pregnancy, she had decided to play the part of a bad girl and gone joyriding with Ste. Ste's dangerous driving resulted in a dreadful crash where Amy was left motionless as the Ste fleed the scene, viewers unsure of whether or not this leads to a miscarriage. Later, after Amy was taken to hospital, she was still unconscious. Michaela was in the room, about to tell Mike and Kathy that Amy was pregnant, when she suddenly woke up from her unconscious state. Amy realised that the baby may not have survived the accident, until Suzanne Ashworth, who was working as a nurse at the hospital, tried to persuade her to tell her parents, but Amy refused. Together they listened for the baby's heartbeat, and they confirmed that the baby is still alive. Michaela was sick of everyone blaming her for the accident so she stormed out on Amy in the time that she needed her most and refused to speak to her at all. Amy and Josh discovered they liked each other soon afterwards and after Josh bought her a present, they kissed.

[edit] The Cunningham family

Hired for New Years party now with a full time job at The Loft, a love interest for Max. After causing a rift between Max and OB, Clare's mysterious behaviour has raised some suspicions as to whether she is using Max. From 7 April 2006, Clare is being played by a new actress, Gemma Bissix, who previously played another Clare in EastEnders. A darker side of her character was revealed when her boyfriend Max took his brother Tom on holiday. After discovering that newcomer Sean Kennedy was filthy rich and had big ambitions she forgot all about Max and seduced Sean in the nightclub's office, also forgetting to lock the door. Mel Burton caught Clare and Sean together, but Clare will use Mel's drink problem against her if or when she spills the beans. She convinced Max that Mel was lying, and has driven a wedge between Max and OB. She has schemed to get rid of OB and has played the perfect, loyal girlfriend and Max has fallen for it by proposing to her, unaware that she is using him. More recently, after Tom overheard things to make him suspicious, she has tried to turn Max against Tom, like she drew on a wall with chalk and blamed him and told Max of lies Tom was telling so that Max wouldn't believe him if Tom told him about what he's heard.
More recently, Clare has been stashing money away which she has been conning out of Max, firstly she was given £5k to refurbish the Loft, but only spent £2k, telling Max she spend the full £5k. Also, she told Max the new CCTV system from Warren would cost £3k, but she managed to get in for £1k.
After deciding that she could no longer stay with Max, as he wanted a baby, she made up a story about her being infertile. She told Max that she needed to go to London to see a doctor, when she was really inquiring about immigrating to New Zealand. She then returned to Hollyoaks and told Max that she could have an operation in America but it would cost £50,000 when she really wants the money to help her start a new life.
Tom was born on Millennium Eve 1999. His short life has already been full of trauma. He is the only child his late parents had together, although they already had six adult children between them. His mother went into labour when giving half-sister Mandy a driving lesson! After the death of his parents Tom lived for a short while with Mandy, but now lives with half-brother Max. Tom has survived both the car crash that killed his parents, the fire he started while playing with fireworks and getting unknowingly drunk when he drank a can of Mel's coca cola that she'd topped up with vodka. Tom ran away from home after he started the fire whilst playing with fireworks and Mandy found him and brought him back. After Tom became an uncle when Mandy gave birth to Grace in 2005 and Max got together with girlfriend Clare, for a while it looked like Tom's life was going to be happy and settled, however Grace died aged just seven months old and Tom is struggling to comprehend the death of his tiny niece. Tom also overheard Clare on the phone mention the name Sean -Clare had slept with Sean behind Max's back - and Clare decided to make it look like Tom was going through a 'naughty stage' so that if Tom mentioned anything to Max he wouldn't believe him. Clare drew a smiley face on the wall and pretended Tom had drawn it. Recently she got a glass of water and poured it in Tom's bed, making out to Max that Tom had wet himself. Clare assures Max's doubts by persuading him that Tom is having a troubling time, 'He's confused', and thus leads Max to reject any befuddling statements about Clare, Sean and her father. She does not really care for Tom, but tries to manipulate him when it suits her. Clare's latest stunt was when the family was dining at Il Gnosh and Max was ordering drinks while Tom was at the bathroom, Clare posioned his food with a strange white bottle which caused him to throw up on Nancy and be ill for a few days.

[edit] The Dean/Osborne family

The proprietor of The Dog In The Pond public house, thrice married ex-policeman Jack is typically a no-nonsense bloke who often clashes with his son Darren over his ill thought out plans and impulsive behaviour. He provided a home for the Deans after their eviction from their home, after first being sceptical, he soon warmed to the family and after starting a relationship with Frankie, decided the Dean's could live there permantly. He is now married to Frankie and are both enjoying a happy relationship. Because of the explosion & fire that occurred in the dog on September 8th, Jack & his family were temporailly homeless, but the Dog In The Pond has now been refurnished and they have taken up residence there again.
Impulsive and slightly flaky, Frankie was hit hard by the departure of her husband Johnno, who left her to marry his pregnant 19 year old girlfriend. She is now married to Jack Osborne and is now living there after being evicted from her home for failing to pay the bills. Frankie is the mother of Jake, Debbie, Steph and Craig Dean. Her eldest daughter, Debbie, has left to become a professional singer. Frankie is also a very good singer and works in the pub doing the occasional singing.
Very impulsive and not blessed with a lot of forethought, Darren has a tendency to make enemies due to his headstrong nature and his arrogance. Darren also feels constantly hard done by and seeks to prove himself through get rich quick schemes and forcibly asserting his independence in order to try and win Jack's approval. He has recently broken step-brother, Craig's heart by sleeping with Darlene. Darren has also recently been provoking Jake Dean over the situation with Becca. Darren eventually pushed Jake too far and was almost punched by him. However, Jake missed and hit Jack instead.
When a fire occurred in the Dog on September 8th, Darren valiantly tried to fight it, but to no avail. Since Steph's recent dalliance with fame, Darren is currently her agent, although he is rather incompitent and seems to be keeping a large wadge of Steph's earnings for himself.
Frankie and Johnno's eldest child, Jake was the reliable, sensible one in the family who had to constantly bail out his troublesome siblings and more often his money spending parents. This included taking on mortgages and got him a bad name with the bank when his parents managed to lapse the agreement and not pay their share. Following Ben Davies' wedding to Izzy, Jake shared a kiss with Becca who he had been trying to impress all night. Jake pursued Becca and was delighted when she became his girlfriend. Despite the fact he obviously worshipped Becca he indulged in an affair with Lisa Hunter and was torn over what to do for the best. He ended the affair and planned to propose to Becca. This went wrong and the guilt of having cheated on the woman he loved got too much and rather than proposing he confessed to the affair. Becca was heartbroken and Jake begged her to forgive him but after discovering he had not only cheated on her but had also given her an STD she broke up with him.
Jake pined for Becca, and after finally getting close to her again he decided to keep it that way and retrieved the ring he had given her and proposed in a knight's outfit on a white horse ready to sweep Becca off her feet. Although the proposal went slightly wrong Jake was over the moon when Becca accepted and the two were reconciled. They married in a double ceremony with Jake's mum Frankie also marrying Jack Osborne. Becca had doubts on the wedding day and seriously thought of calling the whole thing off, but married him anyway after a heart to heart with her father.
Shortly after Becca told him she was pregnant with his baby, Jake discovered that Becca was having an affair with sixteen-year-old Justin Burton, a former student of hers. He attacked Justin Burton and Becca after finding out, and then removed his wedding ring. It is not known whether the baby will be his or Justin's. He is now living with Jack and Frankie.
Jake is the man responsible for the death of Diane Valentine. He knocked her down in his van whilst upset after a row with his family. Rather than stick around, Jake drove off, making it a hit and run. He turned himself in to the police a few days later, where he was charged with four offences, resulting in the possibility of a fourteen year sentence.
When Steph first arrived she was Zara Morgan's bitchy school friend. She loved nothing more than humiliating and bullying others. Her most notable campaign was against Lisa Hunter who hung around with Steph and her friends Abby and Zara, making her self-harm issues worse with her bullying tactics. Her cruelty towards Lisa reached a climax when she obtained photographic evidence of Lisa's boyfriend Brian Drake cheating on her with Zara Morgan. Whilst Lisa was singing as part of the show at the school prom Steph projected a photo of Brian and Zara kissing onto the wall for all to see. Lisa, heartbroken self harmed and ended up in hospital. Steph took great delight in telling everyone Lisa had tried to kill herself. Steph ended up having to grovel to her friends who were disgusted by what she had done. This never stopped Steph having sly digs at Lisa about self harm, especially when she discovered that Lisa's brother-in-law Toby Mills was the serial killer who had attacked her and left her with epilepsy. Steph and Lisa finally put the past behind them when they started university. They agreed to put the past behind them and Steph apologised for the way she treated Lisa over the years.
Steph has always been aware of her attractiveness. During her school days she had a bit of a reputation as the school slapper. She slept with Brian Drake whilst he was going out with Zara, and footballer Scott Anderson to name two, but we were always led to believe she had also slept with off screen characters too. Following Steph's diagnosis of epilepsy she worried that guys would no longer be attracted to her and to try and prove to herself she was still desirable she got together with Darren Osbourne, he later dumped her after she had a seizure. Steph's attack by Toby Mills was the turning point where she calmed down and became nicer towards others, probably because she realised through the reactions she had from people about her epilepsy that it was wrong to judge others. That doesn't mean that flashes of the old Steph don't rear their head from time to time, but these days she does consider others feelings more.
Steph has acted in a television commercial for rugs and, like her older sister Debbie, enjoys singing. Although she complains about them, she maintains a close relationship with most of her family, the only exception being her father Johnno, who impregnated and ran off with a nineteen-year-old and her baby half-brother, whom she has never met. Steph's most recent relationship was with OCD sufferer Cameron Clark. She spent a while in denial about her feelings for him, mainly because Cameron's geeky image didn't fit in with the type of man she usually went for. In the end she decided that didn't matter. Their relationship was far from easy though as it became clear Cameron was suffering from OCD. Steph showed everyone how she had really grown up and changed from the school-bully she once was by sticking with Cameron and helping him through his problems. She went on to prove once more she had changed by setting up an audition for Cameron with a local band even though she knew that it would mean her losing him and the end of their relationship. Putting on a brave face she waved Cameron off as he went on tour around Europe with the band. She is staying in Hollyoaks and now hates Becca Dean (her sister-in-law) because of her affair with Justin. She has failed her exams in college so she will have to retake them. She has appeared in Bid Crazy TV and got in a fight with the presenter. She is now trying to become a singer with her terribly strong voice. She is trying to be in a girl band (X-Pose) with step-brother Darren as her agent. She got £500 off her mother for the film reel which was meant to be made. For the next £500 she had to lap-dance. A sly Darren however, kept £150 off the money earned. She then found out that she had been conned along with four other girls. Steph's latest escapade has seen her doing a kiss and tell story on celebrity Joe Jones who she met after her sister Debbie (played by Jodi Albert)returned for a brief visit and set up an audition for Steph to try and become one of Joe's backing singers. Steph failed the audition and feeling jealous of her sister's success after hearing she had a job in a west end show decided she was going to get fame one way or another. She went to a party that Debbie told her about and met famous pop star Joe Jones and slept with him believing that he would invite her on tour with him, but he didn't. Outraged, steph sold her story to a tabloid and a TV show angering her family and causing Debbie to loose her job.
Fiercely protective of his family and friends since he was left devastated by the knowledge that his father was having an illicit affair. Craig is intelligent and crafty and often willing to turn his hand to scams and manipulation to get his way. He has recently left a relationship with Darlene Taylor after feeling as if she wasn't fair on him and making up untrue claims about his family making passes on her- Her cause wasn't exactly helped by having Craig walk in on her having sex with Darren, an event Darren orchestrated to prove what type of person Darlene was to Craig. His birthday is June 10. Sonny Valentine his currently bullying him after his brother Jake hit Sonny's mum with a car. His new best mate John-Paul McQueen wishes he would stand up to him. Craig had been hoping to escape Hollyoaks village this year after completing his A levels. He had been offered a conditional place at a university in Ireland, but after failing to get the right grades he decided to repeat a year at Hollyoaks Comprehensive. After persuing Sarah Barnes, the two have now been out on a few dates and are 'an item'.

[edit] The McQueen family

  • Myra McQueen - Nicole Barber-Lane, 2006-
Mother to all the McQueen girls and John-Paul. She appeared on Monday 12th June after giving money to Mike Barnes after she thought he was a homeless man and forcing Michaela to own up to Max Cunningham about her shoplifting with Amy Barnes. She suffers from piles so she needs her "comfy stool". She has all her hopes on John-Paul after being let down by her daughters and men. She obviously loves all her kids, she recently admitted to getting the grandfather to forge birthday cards to Tina from her estranged father when she was young so she didnt feel left out when Jacqui and Mercedes got cards. Myra immensely dislikes Tony Hutchinson after having dumped Jacqui- who has returned to prison -and sacking Michaela not realising that she was a new employee.
  • Jacqui McQueen - Claire Cooper, 2006-
The hard-nut and black sheep of the McQueen clan who's just been released from jail. She used to look after her siblings whilst Myra was at work. She made them take things and put them into Michlea's pram. She had a one night stand with Tony Hutchinson not long after her release from prison. This inspired Tony to go on holiday and sort his life out. When Tony returned to Hollyoaks, the two reunited and became a couple once again, but as Jacqui violated her tag with Tony (she stayed at his house all night instead of leaving at 7pm) she has now been banged up inside, the pressures of this made it too hard for Tony to cope and he broke off the relationship.
Carmel first appears in Hollyoaks Mid-August 2006 and first impressions are that she is a typical air-head but it is soon made clear that there is more to her than that. She expresses a great talent for singing, but is easily mislead and Feisty Mercedes looks out for her as she does with the rest of the McQueen girls. She has a obvious brash style and is not scared of showing herself off, which makes her a instant hit with the men. However, she is also quite naíve, and is prone to being taken advantage of by any spurious admirer with a silver tongue and flash car. She now works at Evissa filling Sophie & Mels jobs. She recently spent Mercedes' and Jacqui's secret stash of money on a lovely new boob job. She has recently attempted to match make Warren and Louise and so far things look good. She is a very funny character and she has the amazing ability to make light of the most random things.
The McQueen sister that is a lot more studious than all her sisters. She caught the eye of Dom when she first arrived, and they have had since a series of disastrous dates, even though they have a lot in common with each other. But soon admitting to each other that they were both virgins they eased into their relationship. Tina recently discovered that her father had nothing to do with her since birth even though she recieved birthday cards from him every year, which were infact from her mum, Myra.
She is a bit of a trouble maker unlike middle sister Tina. Within hours of arriving she threatened to sue Sophie Burton for 'injuring' her during a massage at Evissa. She's a brash and bossy character that causes trouble straight away. She makes an enemy of Sophie and gets her claws into Russ Owen. Entered on Monday 19th June. Russ Owen kissed her so he could get proof of her with her neck-brace off, but things went wrong when Mercedes got her own back by revealing to Sophie what she and Russ got up to. On the day that Sophie died, the day of the explosion Mercedes was cheating with Russ. Mercedes is now working at the relaunched Dog in the Pond as a barmaid. Mercedes recently fell out with Russ after Jessica published his research on the McQueens in the Student's paper. They have made up now, as Russ sold something important to him to buy Mercy a gift.
  • John-Paul McQueen - James Sutton, 2006-
The only male in the family 17 year old John-Paul befriended Craig Dean on Craig's first day back to school after he failed his exams. He saved him from being beaten up by Sonny Valentine by setting off the fire alarm. John-Paul did not get caught. He won the Loft's DJ competition after Sonny Valentine was disqualified for cheating. His mother hopes he will make a name for himself after being let down by her daughters and husbands. He gets along with Sonny but wishes that he would lay off Craig. He tryed to get Craig to stand up to Sonny, after Sonny lost the DJ competition, he has been slightly intimidated by JP and has now layed off Craig. He has recently been ushered into a double date by Craig Dean and Sarah Barnes, to date Hannah Ashworth. He went round her house and him and Hannah were going to sleep togther. But both decided that they weren't ready and instead they cuddled up on her bed and he put his arm over her very protectively.
Mischievous when she wants to be, calculating when she needs to be, Michaela is nonetheless a loyal friend and close ally to those she thinks matters. She pressured Amy into having sex with her short-term boyfriend, Ste. She has selfishly bullied her friend into going all the way with Ste so that her boyfriend Wayne (Ste's mate) won't dump her. When Ste dumped Amy, Michaela's nasty streak became apparent as she abandoned her friend and teased her, before going off with Wayne and Ste, leaving Amy upset and alone. When Amy stands up to her they had a fight in the playground. The day after Michaela gets a taste of her own medicine when she gets her self dumped by Wayne he dumps her by text message and said he only went out with her because she was easy. Amy and Michaela reconciled as friends but then Michaela lead her to shoplifting. She finds out about Amy's teen pregenancy and keeps her mouth shut. After best friend Amy gets seriously hurt in a car crash that Michaela was present in, she gets the blame, even though it was Amy who egged on Ste to steal the car and drive it faster. She nearly tells the Barnes family about Amy's pregnancy, but just as she's about to confess, Amy (who was unconsious from the crash) awakens. While at her sister Mercedes birthday party Amy shows up and tries to talk to Michaela but she doesn't want anything to do with Amy because she's getting all the blame for the car crash because she's a 'McQueen'. Stating that it's always about Amy, and that since she's found out about her baby Michaela's always been there for Amy, and that has Amy ever considered what she wants? She ends their friendship telling Amy she means nothing to her anymore.

[edit] The Valentine family

Estranged husband of Diane. Father to Calvin, Sonny and Sasha, who eventually comes to live with his family after their mothers death. He is an alcoholic and was drunk at his estranged wife's funeral. He has now managed to barge into the house and is living there permantly. He recently had a one night stand with Myra McQueen, but later lied about it to Sasha and said he spent the night on a mates floor after drinking too much. Sasha later discovered from her friend/Myra's daughter Michaela. Sasha was shocked but did not persue the matter, as of yet.
Calvin is oldest of the Valentine children and is a straight–laced police officer. He tells his mum that he is planing to move out not long after moving in. He clashes with his younger brother Sonny, as Calvin doesn't like Sonny's friends. He plans to move in to a flat with his best friend, fellow police officer and mentor Eddie. On his first day on the beat he is called to a hit and run and notices that the victim is none other than his Mum, Diane.
Calvin was present in The Dog when Sam Owen caused an explosion & fire, killing himself & 4 others. Calvin may have inadvertently been the cause of the fire starting, as he hit Sam in the head with a bar glass and caused him to drop the lighter. Ironically, Calvin was the one who saved Jake Dean's life, despite Jake being the one that killed Calvin's mother. He has taken on the role of patriach of the family househould and has now let Justin Burton, who has fallen on hard times, come and live with them.
A 'wannabe gangster' sort of type, with an extremely short and violent temper.
When the Valentine family arrive at their new house they find out that the Burton sisters are still living in the house. Sonny rudely bursts the door down and threatens them into leaving. Unknown to his mother Sonny deals in illegal goods which helps buy him top name brand clothes. Sonny's older brother Calvin senses there's a problem with Sonny and doesn't want him turning into a criminal.
When Calvin asks to search Sonny's room, Sonny refuses and tells Calvin that the only reason he got accepted as police officer is because of his skin colour. After Jake Dean hit his mum with a car Sonny became even more of a thug. Despising the Dean/Osbournes after Jake got of with a 3 month suspended sentence, 2 years banned from driving & a fine. He then made it his misson to make Craig Dean's life a misery at school, with the help of Justin Burton. He accompanied Justin to the Students Ball which ended in disaster when Justin beat up Kris Fisher outside.
He entered the Loft's DJ competition and seemed an amazing DJ. Until Claire put on the cd he left in the machine which revealed Sonny was pretending to DJ. He was disquialfied and John-Paul McQueen went on to win the competition.
The dark horse of the family: only sister Sasha. She may initially come across as under confident, but in actual fact it's her subtle way of keeping the peace. She was the only one to remeber her dead mothers birthday one year on from the death, so she went to her graveside with Justin Burton, who she has a small soft spot for. She has recently tried to win over Justin's favour by waiting for him in his and Sonny's bedroom for Justin while Sonny was out. When Justin came in nothing happened between them because he said it was too soon after Becca. Sasha was disappointed but got over it.

[edit] Hollyoaks Siblings

[edit] The Hayton Sisters

Becca's younger sister. Nancy is a bit tactless, always speaking her mind and very arrogant. She struck up a close friendship with Nicole. Unlike her sister, Nancy isn't afraid to have her opinion known, and has warned brother-in-law Jake not to mess Becca around or he will have her to deal with. Her and Nicole had a childish falling out over Justin which involved mash potato fights and Nicole swapping her and Justin's numbers on Nancy's phone in order to trick Nancy. However they have currently resolved their differences and are back to being best friends. She was dealt a blow after finding out her sick father had died, and a second equally devastating event happened not long afterwards, as Grace Hutchinson died whilst Nancy & Hannah were babysitting. Nicole was the person who told Nancy about the affair between Justin and Becca. Nancy was told on her 16th birthday in the Dog in the Pond. She briefly fell out with Nicole over her gleeful attitude to Becca's affair being outed, and her desire to get the latest gossip about the affair first instead of being there for her friend. She later forgave Becca for the affair and Justin started to live with her and Becca.
Nancy is currently in a relationship with former tattooo artist Foz and is starting a campaign to prove Becca's innocence encouraged by his hippy mother Willow. Willow is a feminist and Foz feels that she is abit to over the top giving Nancy all this information about feminism. Her relationship with Foz is currently under a lot of strain with Foz claiming she's too "clingy" and he recently abandoned her for a week without telling her where he was going.

[edit] The Hutchinson/Reilly Brothers

The only original character still in the show, Tony was married to Mandy. Their relationship has been a troubled one and Tony has suffered domestic violence from Mandy however the couple resolved their difficulties and married in Rome. After a miscarriage, Mandy gave birth to a baby girl and Tony was a doting dad to Grace. However, he appears to now be a shoulder for Mandy to cry on due to Grace passing away from suspected SIDS, coincidentally happening on the night Hannah Ashworth and Nancy Hayton babysat. Has struggled to accept the fact Grace died of natural causes and has placed the blame on many people. Starting to become more dependent on alcohol and his actions are pushing Mandy away, into the arms of his brother. He organised for Mandy and him to be counselled but this upset Mandy and she felt as though she had married the wrong brother. Mandy has now left Tony, leaving him upset and alone. His brother Dom has moved back in with him after a fall out over Mandy. He was the best man to brother-in-law Max's wedding day because OB had tried to stop Clare and Max's wedding. He has recently enjoyed a fling with Jacqui McQueen, but when she violated her curfew from her tag, she had to go back to prison which caused Tony to break off the relationship.
  • Dominic 'Dom' Reilly - John Pickard, 2005-
Dominic is the long-lost brother of Tony. Dominic and Tony have only just found out they are brothers; they previously believed they were cousins. At first, Tony had disliked Dom because Dom used to bully Tony when they were younger. Tony initially struggled with the revelation of the relationship but is now coming to accept it. Dom has been a shoulder for Mandy to cry on since Grace's death and has supported her much better than Tony, thus leading to Mandy realising she has feelings towards Dom.
Mandy left Tony but kept in contact with Dom. When Tony found this out he threw Dom out, Dom then returned to pick up clothes for Mandy, but decided against Mandy's wishes not to reveal her whereabouts to Tony, and told Tony where he could meet her, previously where Mandy had arranged to meet Dom so they could run off together. Tony meets Mandy, and they talk, finally coming to the conclusion that it is probably for the best that they don't see each other again, largely Mandy's decision. Tony was left in tears but slowly gets back to normality. Dom has now started a relationship with Tina McQueen and after confessing to eachother they are both virgins, they are both mild mannered and slightly awkward, making the perfect couple.

[edit] Hollyoaks Comprehensive students

Troubled teen, Justin began misbehaving and smoking cannabis after he learned that his father committed suicide. He constantly hurt his family and hid behind Liz, who felt obliged to support him. However, after pushing step-sister Darlene through a plate glass window, Liz sent Justin off to boot camp.
Since then, he has calmed considerably, completed his GCSEs at Hollyoaks Comprehensive, and recently reconciled with Darlene and Ali, becoming fast friends with his step-siblings. He was framed by Macki for blowing up the science labs at his high school but later proved his innocence, although Macki was not identified as the culprit. He and step-brother Ali were bullied by Macki and his gang which dramatically ended with Ali stabbing Macki before being knocked down by a car and killed.
In his haste to cover up for his step-brother, Justin led the police to believe it was he who had stabbed Macki and he was arrested for murder. He was bullied on remand in youth detention and escaped whilst on a trip to the dentist. He spent a month on the run but was eventually caught when the police followed his sister Mel as she brought him provisions. Justin was then back in prison awaiting trial. He would be visited in secret by Becca Dean, his teacher. Justin was found not guilty of murder and returned home.
He had a relationship with Nicole Owen, whom he dumped in order to pursue Becca, however, it would have more than likely happened anyway, as Nicole lied about sleeping with Justin. He would later claim they were only together "in her head" - A claim supported by them never dating, only kissing once when Justin was on the run, and the lack of contact between the two when he was on holiday immediately after the trial until his return just before Christmas. Becca confronted him about his treatment of Nicole and he and Becca ended up sleeping together. Becca was worried he would tell her husband, Jake Dean.
Justin is the same age as Becca's sister Nancy, with whom he had a brief relationship to make Becca jealous, when Justin informed Becca he was leaving, she begged him to stay in Hollyoaks. He had an affair with her and when Becca became pregnant she was unsure whether Jake or Justin was the father. Becca left Justin after Grace Hutchinson died and decided to stay with husband Jake to raise "their" baby together rather than run away with Justin and become an outcast, as she thought that would be what was best for the baby. However, Jake found out about this affair and attacked Justin, leaving him with some nasty bruising on his face. Despite this, Justin and Becca have now gotten back together, and Justin currently lives in the flat Becca and her sister share. He is in a relationship with Becca, but they are getting into financial troubles. They live off Justin's child benefits and his income from his part-time job at Il Gnosh.
But after the death of his twin sisters (Sophie & Mel Burton) he went into grief. He befriended Sonny Valentine, the local thug and became a menance together to the neighbourrhood. His behaviour spiralled out of control by vandilising Foz's mural, for those who died in the fire, & then beat up student Kris Fisher at the Student Ball. Soon after this he proposed to Becca, who was thinking about dumping him. They are now engaged despite Becca's doubts about Justin's capabilities as a father. Soon after, Becca finally dumped Justin, but he filed a case against her for having sex with a minor.

[edit] Hollyoaks Community College students

A Student studying Film Studies, Zoë was a former girlfriend of Joe Spencer, the two dated in high school before Joe dumped her because of her weight. Zoë ended up going to HCC with Joe, and coincidentally, was one of the freshers taking Joe, Olivia & Jessica's dorm. After trying and failing to stop the new freshers from kicking them out of their rooms, Joe told Zoe he regretted dumping Zoe in high school.
Zoë, Kris Joe & Olivia were present in The Dog when Sam Owen set it on fire. After Joe led Kris & Zoë out through the basement, he decided to go back & search for Olivia, which Zoe disagreed with because she didn't want Joe to die. Joe said he wasn't going to lose her again. These would be his last words to Zoë, as he died trying to save Olivia. Zoë & Kris tried to phone Joe, and followed his ringtone to a group of bodybags, leaving Zoë distraught.
Zoë has lost weight since first dating Joe and is now an attractive confident girl, although is in some respects a 'tomboy'. She rejected an attempted kiss from Will Hackett, as she had not yet recovered from the death of Joe, to whom she found herself attracted again despite their colourful past. In an effort to regain her confidence with Joe no longer around to help, she has become a bit of an exhibitionist; first posing nude for Foz's art class (and being attacked by his jealous girlfriend Nancy for the privelege) and then experimenting with private nudity with cross-dressing flatmate Kris, who is one of the few people she now trusts since her room was broken into and bugged by her obsessive live-in 'stalker' Will.
Zoë had a brief relationship with Zak; at first, a one night stand, before they confessed their feelings to each other. The relationship was sabotaged by Will, to whom she has inevitably become close but her 'activities' with Kris continue to make Will obsessively jealous.
A Student studying Media Studies, Kris causes quite a stir in the village as he loves to dress up like 80's icon Boy George. When he moved to Hollyoaks, he took an instant dislike to Jessica Harris because he recognised how badly she treated her friend Olivia. He became friends with Olivia and wanted her to stand up to Jessica. He was with Olivia in The Dog In The Pond the night Sam Owen set it on fire and killed her. Grieving for his new friend, Kris's dislike for Jessica quickly developed into a severe hatred and in return Jessica blamed him for planting Olivia's diary in her bedroom...she was later proved wrong as Will admitted to doing it.
His vast confidence was shattered when Justin Burton beat him up at the Students Ball in a unprovoked attack. After the attack, Jessica became a pillar of support for him and they slowly became quite good friends. He now has a job at the new Dog In The Pond, even though Jack Osbourne said he "wasn't working there dressed like that!" Frankie stuck up for him and employed him herself.
When the students spotted a stunning girl in the SU Bar, Will & Zak agreed that she was out of their league but Kris argued that she wasn't out of his. He then managed to snog her in front of Zoë, Jessica, Will & Zak, shatering their suspicions that he might be gay.
Jessica recently secured Kris an interview to be resident Agony Uncle on the college radio station Hollyoaks FM.
On the fourth of December show, Kris revealed he was nineteen years old.
  • Will Hackett played by Oliver Farnworth, 2006-
A Student studying Pure Maths, Will was revealed as a child genius by Gilly as he was a contestant on Countdown at 15 years old and seen as a child prodigy. He was also fast-tracked into Oxford University at 16 but dropped out due to complications.
Now at HCC with a second chance, Will is extremely moody and keeps himself to himself but has developed obsessive feelings for Zoë Carpenter. He tried to win her affection but she turned him down; he has since tried more devious means of winning her praise by trying to sabotage her new relationship with Zak Ramsey. When Zak and Zoë made up Will broke into her bedroom, framing Zak, whom Zoë dumped. Will has 'bugged' Zoë's bedroom but saw more than he bargained for when Zöe rekindled her new-found interest in nudism with flatmate Kris Fisher.
A student of marketing and advertising, Jess is confident, beautiful, headstrong and determined to always get what she wants and frequently does. At first she couldn't be parted from her mobile phone (and her link to boyfriend Mark) but over time it seems she is drifting apart from her long-term boyfriend. When Mark turned up at the college Jess had to retrieve a letter she sent dumping him for Gilly. The two stayed together until the letter finally showed up revealing all. Mark and Gilly battled for her affections when she was in hospital for meningitis but she couldn't decide between them, so she wanted to date both of them. She later dumped Mark and Gilly saying that it was unfair on both of them. Her and Olivia protested about the fact that they were unfairly sacked at Il Gnosh, going to lengths such as a naked sit-in.
Her best friend, Olivia died in the fire which left her heart broken even though she didn't want to show it. She later befriended Kris and they have remained good friends.
She recently went up aganst Will for the position of Editor of HCC's school newspaper. She got the position by using Russ' social anthropology research on the class differences between the Owen's and the McQueens as her article, which caused the pair to break up for a short while. She is often percieved as a snob, and probably is one.
A Social Anthropology student, Russ is easy-going and very at home with himself. He also exhibits a very mature nature when necessary. He is a popular ladies man and unafraid to make his views heard. Russ recently suffered from testicular cancer and had one testicle removed as a result. This left him depressed for a while, during which time, his brother Sam supported him. Russ was in love with Dannii, who left him when he didn't believe she was raped by Andy. In the spin-off series, Hollyoaks: Back from the Dead, he suffered a traumatic experience when he witnessed the serial rapist almost rape his sister. Russ suffered serious injuries after Andy beat him with a pole. Having long hair for well over a year, Russ shaved it off in April in an attempt to stop people recognising him as "Brother of Sam Owen: Rapist". Russ is slowly getting over the ordeal, showing interest in a relationship with Sophie Burton. However, Sophie told him to stay away after Mercedes let it out that he had slept with her, despite Russ telling Sophie that nothing happened between him and Mercedes. He began seeing Sophie but also couldn't resist Mercedes. He was supposed to meet Sophie at the Dog, but slept with Mercedes instead. He was shocked to come home to find Nicole tied up, and to hear that Sam was back. Russ charged into the pub and pulled Sophie out of the fire, but he was too late, she died. Russ admitted that he couldn't grieve for Sam. He admitted to Nicole that he was with Mercedes and he never loved Sophie. He accepted an invitation to be a pallbearer at Sophie's funeral. Russ made a speech at the funeral. Justin discovered where he was the night Sophie died and beat him up at the wake. After his family had left Hollyoaks Russ moved in with Mercedes. They saved up money for a flat, but Mercedes gave the money to her sister Jacqui. After Russ saved Carmel from Davey, Russ decided that enough was enough and left Mercedes. However it was a missunderstanding and they made up. Russ recently landed himself in hot water with the McQueen family after gathering research on them for his Masters degree thesis on class. The information became public news when Jessica Harris used it as part of an article for the student paper. He later won back Mercedes affections.
  • Zak Ramsey played by Kent Riley, 2004-2005,2006-
A student studying a degree in Sports Science with a view to becoming a P.E. teacher. Zak is a short, sporty, spunky lad, the youngest of four brothers. He's a tight bundle of enthusiasm and testosterone. He idolises both of them and they've clearly taught him everything they know about the three most important things in a lad's life- Liverpool Football Club, Lager and Ladies.
Zak's a hard-working, but hard-playing scouse lad. He never had any ambitions to go onto further education until a friendly Games teacher at school suggested he might be able to put his passion for sport to use as a profession.
He's a genuinely gregarious lad and enjoys meeting people. He likes the energy that keeping himself fit gives him, but he's neither vain nor arrogant. He's a simple lad with simple, honest tastes. He was moved into Olivia's room soon after she died. Was originally cast as Zak Barnes however by the time he returned to Hollyoaks (after a short time away) the Barnes family had been cast resulting in his name changing to Zak Ramsey. Funnily enough Zak has returned to the same student flat he shared with Zara Morgan, Lisa Hunter, Steph Dean, Cameron Clark and Bella Manning. From his first stint we also learnt that Zak has a brother who is currently serving in the British Army in Iraq.
He recently had a one night stand with both Zoe and Jessica. After reliasing his feelings for Zoe, he is doing his best to try and make things up to her, even though one of his best mate's (Will) is bound to ruin the relationship some day soon.

  • Carrie Owen - Jaq Croft, 2004-2006
Warm and caring, Carrie feels deeply for her children and will go to great lengths to protect them even though her interfering can earn her little gratitude at times. Carrie is intelligent and will usually act as though she is naive or unaware of what is going on in her children's lives, whilst she is really picking up more than she lets on. She only becomes involved when she feels it is absolutely necessary and tends to let her views go unnoticed much of the time. Carrie had split up with Rob for a long period of time because of different views about whether Sam had set the house on fire. When she found out about her son Sam date-raping girls, she refused to see his side of the story, and wanted him in prison. However, Carrie was devastated when Sam told her he didn't want her to visit him in prison, and that if she did, he would deny her visitation rights. Carrie throw herself into the houshold chores and organised Sam's funeral. She was angry when Russ and Nicole refused to attend. Carrie decided that the family would leave Hollyoaks.
Carrie's estranged husband. He recently returned after finding out about Russ's cancer. Originally ostracised from the family because he refused to believe Sam's innocence when he was imprisoned, Rob returned after Russ warned him that he could be at risk from cancer, and after Nicole begged him to stay. Rob's return almost split the family again as Sam refused to accept him at first. He was forced to change his mind after Rob rescued him on a climbing trip when Sam was unable to scale the rock face on his own. He tried to help Sam to run away after it was revealed that Sam was a drug-rapist however this attempt failed and it caused a bit of tension between Rob and Carrie.
Very naive, Nicole is easily led but still capable of sticking up for herself and her friends mores the pity. She is also perceptive and intelligent like her mother. Almost went through with a breast enlargement operation because of her insecurities.
After Justin Burton had escaped from prison Nicole went on the run with him and gave evidence in his favour at his trial. She considered herself Justin's girlfriend although she wasn't. She has very strong views and has become a vegan, but is annoying her family by trying to push her beliefs onto them.
In the late night special Hollyoaks: Back from the Dead, Nicole was abducted by Andy, the serial rapist, as bait for Sam and Russ however she managed escaped rape after being rescued by Mel Burton. Nicole was disgusted when she found out Sam was also a rapist and has vowed never to speak to him again.
More recently, she found out about Becca and Justin's affair after she saw them snogging behind a curtain after school. She told Nancy on her 16th birthday. Sam contacted Nicole and she visited him in prison, however it was all a trick. Sam took Nicole hostage and escaped. It was Nicole who told Sarah about the photo in the magazine. Nicole worried about the future and Sam coming back. Nicole was at home when Sam turned up. He took her hostage and tied her up. She tried to escape but he caught her. Sam threatened to pour boiling water over her if she didn't tell him where Sophie was. She did and Sam left Nicole lying on the floor.
Russ came home and found her. She told him what had happened. After the fire Nicole went to the scene of the crime to see it for herself. Nicole and Russ both refused to go to Sam's funeral. She only had bad memories of him. Nicole locked herself in her room and looked at old photos of Sam. She turned up at Sam’s funeral, her parents were the only others there. She sat at the back and showed no emotion. She gave Carrie a comforting hand, but once at home told her that she was sorry her son had died and went back to her room. Everyone hated Nicole and turned against her. She even had a dead rat in her locker. After Ste and Wayne got her drunk and tried to take advantage she decided that enough was enough.

Nicole is returning for Becca's trial in 2007

Olivia split up with her long-term boyfriend, before moving to Hollyoaks to study history. She is finding it hard to adjust to student life. She has become close friends with Jessica Harris, but lives in her shadow, as she is not as outgoing as her or their new friend Steph Dean. She has proved to be a good friend to Jessica in her relationship troubles with Mark and Gilly, and has been learning to be more assertive as she is often walked all over by others. She and Jessica recently did a naked protest as they were fired from Il Gnosh and then Olivia "accidentally" told a story about Jessica to the newspaper. However, Jessica decided to forgive Olivia and the two stayed friends until Kris (a new student) arrived and saw that Jessica was bossing Olivia around. Kris taught Olivia to stick up for herself and one night at the Dog she told Jessica that she was not going to be her slave any more, this upset Jessica and unfortunately, this was there last conversation. Sam Owen came into the pub and set fire to it, a beam fell down and Olivia pinning her down. Joe came into look for her and pulled her out but the heated liquor bottles behind the bar exploded, burning them to death instantly.
Joe is outgoing and extremely self-confident. He is easy going and flexible, with little time for rules or regulations. He is also smitten with ice-queen Louise Summers, despite the fact she has shown no interest in him. He has an estranged relationship with his father, an alcoholic who used to abuse his mother. His money troubles have spiralled out of control and he has resulted to fraud by taking out a credit card in flatmate Jez's name. Jez is oblivious to this and also brought him a laptop after Joe's was "stolen". Although he & Danni were forced to leave the student flat they shared with Zara & Jez to make room for Jessica & Olivia, it would appear he moved back into the flat after Zara (& Jessica's ex-boyfriend Mark) moved out. Before College restarted in September 2006, he found out him, Olivia and Jessica had to move out to make room for new students. Joe recognised the name of one of the students as Zoë, a girl he use to date in High School but he dumped her because she was fat. Joe tried to stay in the flat with the Jessica and Olivia by telling the new students that they were their live in student mentors but the students saw through their plans. Joe tried to bribe the students with drinks but with no luck. Joe made it up to Zoë by telling her he regretted dumping her in High School and then they went to the dog together with Kris, Jessica and Olivia. Joe died that night in the Pub fire started by Sam Owen. Joe had theorised that the only safe way out would be through the basement. After successfully getting Kris & Zoë out, he went back for Olivia, who had been pinned under a beam just behind the bar. Before Joe left, he told Zoë that he already lost her once, and he was not going to again. Upon finding Olivia, Joe freed her, but the bottles of liquor behind the bar exploded, burning both of them to death. Zoë tried to ring Joe's phone and heard his ring tone, she & Kris followed it. They found it coming from a group of body bags. Joe died a hero, trying to save Olivia.
Justin's older sister Sophie has had to cope with the suicide of her father and the death of her step-brother Ali, plus breakup of her mother Liz from her stepfather Richard. Sophie has a twin sister, Mel, and her step-sister, Darlene, Richard's daughter, still lived with the family until recently.
Although identical twins, Mel and Sophie are polar opposites; Sophie is quiet and introverted and often gets annoyed by her siblings' behaviour and lack of consideration for her needs.
Sophie and Mel were both drugged with GHB by Andy Holt. Mel was raped, although Sophie escaped this as Andy left her to his partner in the rapes Sam Owen who he knew fancied Sophie but Sam couldn't go through with it.
Sophie started a relationship with Sam not knowing he was part of the rapes until he confessed to it to after Andy had been killed and his parents found out and wanted to turn him in. Sam told Sophie he confessed his crime to her because he loved her and wanted to run away with her. Sophie tricked Sam into turning himself in, by saying she'd stick with him until he got out. After Sam told the Police what he had done Sophie told him she lied to him about wanting to stick with him and she could never forgiving him for letting Andy rape her sister Mel. Sophie was strong and confident when she told Sam about her betraying him. However, Sophie broke down when she was home alone after Sam was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison for his part in the rapes. Presumably, this is because she was still in love with him and wanted him to pay for his crimes, not take his life away.
Sophie went to work at the new salon opened for the Hollyoaks students. Sophie eventually developed feelings for Russ Owen, Sam's brother. She was temporally sacked by Evissa owner Sean Kennedy due to allegations made by Mercedes McQueen about an injured neck. However, Sophie got her job back when Russ pretended to be into Mercedes and photographed her without her neck brace on, proving her allegations to be lies. But Russ had fallen for Mercedes and Sophie eventually told Russ she liked him but Russ said he had to leave and Sophie found him a few minutes later making out with Mercedes.
After Sam escaped Prison Russ started to look after Sophie who was worried Sam was coming to get her. Mercedes was jealous of Russ spending all his time with Sophie and was disappointed that Russ didn't tell her about Sam. Russ and Sophie eventually started dating but Sam had come back to the Village and was told by his sister Nicole that his brother was dating Sophie. Angry Sam went to find Sophie and Russ. Mean while had gone to the dog with her siter, Mel, she waited for Russ (who was sleeping with Mercedes) when she got a phone call from Sam who rushed into the pub and set it alight. Russ found his sister Nicole tied up and she told him that Sam was going to the Dog looking for him and Sophie and was angry that they were dating. Russ went into the burning pub and pulled Sophie out but she later died from smoke inhalation.
Sophie's twin sister Mel is outgoing and speaks her mind. She and Sophie manage to get along despite irritating each other a lot of the time, and she shares her twin's ire at the lack of respect they get from the rest of the family.
Mel has recently had alcohol problems but got her act together following some unprotected sex when she was drunk which left her fearing she had an STI. Andy Holt raped Mel after drugging her and her sister Sophie, which had a catastrophic effect Mel, who turned to alcohol again to try to escape from her problems. Mel was hospitalised after falling into an Pavlov-related coma on New Year's Eve 2005, which led Liz to discover that she had been raped.
In the late night spin-off series Hollyoaks: Back from the Dead, Mel tracked down Andy to the warehouse where he was holding Russ, Sam and Nicole Owen hostage. She drugged him with GHB and told him he would have to pay for his crimes. When she was on the phone to the police Andy tried to escape; he ran into a darkened room where Mel found him impaled on a metal spike (Andy had run into it). Mel then had an on-and-off relationship with Sam O'Brien (Aka "O.B").
Mel's alcoholism has worsened, to the point where she had sex with a man whilst drunk (who mistook her for a prostitute). She also nearly poisoned young Thomas Cunningham, after he accidentally drank some of her pav. Mel is having trouble coping with her new tee-total life style.
On the 8th September Mel Burton was killed in an explosion caused by serial rapist Sam Owen. The target of the explosion was Mel's sister Sophie who survived the explosion but died later of smoke inhalation. Mel Burton was buried along side her sister on the 16th of September 2006, she was 21 years old.
  • Sam Owen - (Louis Tamone), 2004-2006
Not the most empathetic person, Sam is suspicious and sees persecution all around him where there is none. Sam was introduced into Hollyoaks after he served a sentence for a crime he did not commit. He felt let down by Rob for not believing in him and tried to lead a clean-cut lifestyle because he felt that he has something to prove. Despite being a bit self centred, Sam was a major help to Russ in getting over his cancer. He almost split the family up by threatening to walk out when his father returned.
Sam decided to study Law at HCC but this did not last long due to taking part in drug rape, after being tempted by his friend, Andy Holt. Although he was wrecked with guilt, he still committed the rapes. Sam was disgusted with Andy when he found out he raped his brother Russ's girlfriend Danni and drugged the twins Sophie and Mel Burton. This forced Sam to stop, despite pressure from Andy. This resulted in a conflict on a cliff between the Owen brothers and Andy with Andy falling off the cliff down the quarry into the lake (presumably drowning). However, Andy returned to continue his assault on the Owens. When Andy abducted Nicole, Andy lured Russ and Sam to come to an abandoned warehouse. When they got there, Andy beat them with a metal pole and told Nicole and Russ about his involvement in the rapes. They were both shocked and disgusted.
After confessing to his parents, he confessed his involvements in the drug rapes to Sophie, who tricked him into turning himself in. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison and told his parents not to visit him.
6 months later he begins writing to Nicole and sending her visitors orders, begging for forgiveness from his sister. Nicole goes to visit Sam and tells him how much of a mess her life is because of him and refuses to forgive him. This leads to Sam being attacked in prison and hospitalised. During his time in hospital, he manages to escape by holding Nicole hostage and goes on the run. He later returns, deranged to get revenge on Sophie for tricking him into confessing all to the police. Whilst capturing Nicole (who he forces to tell him where Sophie is), she admits that Sophie is now Russ's girlfriend and over Sam. This tips Sam over the edge and he heads to the Dog and Pond pub where he coats the pub in petrol then storms in to kill Sophie. After a collision with Calvin Valentine, he drops his lighter and the full pub goes up in flames. Sam (aged 20) died in the fire he started at the Dog along with Sophie and Melanie Burton (aged 21), Joe Spencer (aged 21) and Olivia Johnson (aged 19).
  • Diane Valentine - Pauline Black, 2006
Diane, mother of three, is the archetypal matriarch, and after her divorce from her husband ten years ago, she has single handedly brought up her children. Either genetically or by example, her children seemed to have adopted her independence, ambition and tenacity. Diane does not notice her son Sonny acting strangely and wearing expensive brands of clothing. She is proud of Calvin becoming a police officer but is heart broken when he announces that he is moving out not long after the family moved in. When Calvin notices that, his leaving he decides to stay upsets Diane but Diane has already gone out to buy a meal for Calvins last day with the family. When she reaches her car after going to the shops, she drops her keys, does not notice Jake Dean in his car driving down the road at full speed before it is too late, and is knocked down. At only four episodes, Diane Valentine is the shortest cast member on the show.

[edit] Music

Hollyoaks is the only major British soap to make use of incidental music, usually a variation of the show's theme music. It is used either as a transition between scenes or as part of a dream-like sequence. Each episode begins with a current or recent chart song. These have included bands such as Radiohead, Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Libertines, The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, Morrissey, The Darkness and the song by Maroon 5 'She Will Be Loved' was repeatedly played over and over in early 2005.

Several Hollyoaks soundtrack CDs have been released over the years, containing music used in the programme.
