Holly Lane

Holly Lane, Erdington starts from the Sutton Road (A5127) and concludes at Wood Lane, Erdington. Just over one mile long it bisects the main Kingsbury Road and Tyburn Road. Most notably is the famous Fort Dunlop at the end of Holly Lane now a new development site. Most of the road is residential and privately owned. The Holly Lane Sports and Social Club is situated almost half way down Holly Lane and comprises of sporting facilities for a number of sporting organizations. It is owned by a organization that fronts Gaelic Football and other Irish sports. A large Irish population lives in the immediate area and is currently undergoing a development to attract more social gatherings.

Holly Lane used to be known as Mason Lane. A Large brickworks were situated on the site. Now it is a brown site with redevelopment plans in the future. This is due to the former brickworks being a land fill for a considerable number of years. During the Second World War, Holly Lane, mostly the top end was hit several times by bombing raids. High explosive and incendiary bombs being dropped. A number of these failed to explode and through the years several have been discovered. Most noticeably at the junction of Holly Lane and Orphanage Road in the 1970s.
