[edit] Known hollows

  • Fishbone D (フィッシュボーンD?)
The hollow that attacks the Kurosaki Clinic in the beginning of Bleach. Purified by Ichigo
  • Hexapodus (ヘキサポダス?)
A weak hollow that tries to eat a child while Ichigo and Rukia watch. Purified by Ichigo.
  • Acidwire (アシッドワイアー?)
Orihime's brother in the form of a hollow. He regains his reason after having his mask partially shattered in combat, and then purifies himself with Ichigo's zanpakutō.
  • Shrieker (シュリーカー?)
Voiced by: Hisao Egawa (Japanese), John DeMita (English)
A bat-like hollow that attacks Chad after the latter gets a cockatiel. Shrieker hollow can fly and control little creatures described as his "excrement". These creatures can shoot leeches out of their heads, which act as bombs when the hollow vibrates his tongue. The cockatiel that Sado had received was possessed by a boy whose mother was killed by Shrieker when the latter was a living serial killer. The bounty reward for Shrieker was 5000 kan (the shinigami currency). He is sent to Hell instead of Soul Society for committing perfidious crimes as a human.
  • Bulbous G (バルバスG?)
A large hollow whose mask resembles a Guardian Lion, he attacks with his bare hands. Bulbous G is defeated by Yasutora Sado after he awakens his latent powers while trying to protect Karin Kurosaki.[1]
  • Numb Chandelier (ナムシャンデリア?)
    Voiced by: Barbara Goodson
A female octopus-like hollow who dislikes fighting. Instead, she attacks with victims she has 'infected' with seedlike projectiles ejected from her mask. Numb Chandelier is defeated by Orihime Inoue after she awakens her latent powers while trying to protect Tatsuki Arisawa.[2]
  • Pesshe Gatiishe (ペッシェ・ガティーシェ?)
A humanoid hollow whose mask looks like a bug. He wears an eyepatch and a loin cloth. His personality is very different from a normal hollow, being much less hostile. He travels with his adoptive brother and sister, Dono Chakker and Nell Tu, and their pet, Bawabawa. He wants the "Great Desert Brothers" to be the title of their group.
  • Dondo Chakker (ドンドチャッカ?)
A large spotted hollow with a mask that looks like a tiki mask with compound eyes. He appears to speak in a yakuza style dialect and his personality is very different from a normal hollow with him being much less hostile. He travels with his adoptive brother and sister, Pesshe and Nell Tu, and their pet, Bawabawa. He wants "The Three Brothers" to be the title of their group. After Nell runs in alongside Ichigo's team into the arrancar territory, he ends up following her and running into Renji.
  • Bawabawa (バワバワ?)
A long worm hollow whose mask is just a plate on his head, he can be likened to a sandworm. He acts as the pet and transportation for Pesshe, Dondo Chakker, and Nell. Bawabawa tends to throw fits for not being included in the group's super sentai styled introduction sequences. Nell told Ichigo in chapter 250 that Bawabawa has to be kept outside at all times because he has to constantly eat sand to survive.
  • Lunuganga (ルヌガンガ?)
A giant hollow made of sand whose head resembles a sand castle. He is the Guardian of the White Sands, and acts under orders from Las Noches. He can't be killed by any sort of physical attacks because he's made of sand which allows him to regenerate. He is able to control sand to make things such as sink holes. His only weakness is water, and as such, he is easily vanquished by Rukia Kuchiki.

[edit] The Arrancar

An arrancar (lit. to remove by force, in Spanish) is a hollow who has removed its mask and gained access to the powers of the shinigami. Among the arrancar, those formed by Menos Grandes are called Números (lit. numbers, in Spanish) and obey directly to the ten most powerful arrancar: the Espada (lit. sword, in Spanish). Among the arrancar, those who were dropped from the Espada receives a three digit number and are called Tres Cifras (lit. three figures, in Spanish) or Privaron Espada (lit. deprived espada, in Spanish).

[edit] Espada

The Espada
The Espada

Noitora is an extremely tall, emaciated Espada (dwarfing Ulquiorra by at least a foot, even when leaning over) with long, black hair and a huge smile on his face revealing his upper teeth. He wears an eyepatch, 6 bracelets, and his arrancar uniform includes an overblown, spoon-like hood and a modified jacket that keeps the circle theme. He is fairly rude, and seems a bit lecherous, referring to Orihime Inoue as "Pet-sama", and asking Ulquiorra how well he "taught" her. The remains of his hollow mask are not visible, and might be hidden under either his hood or eyepatch. His zanpakutō has also not been shown.

  • Zaera-Polo (ザエルアポロ?)

Zaera-Polo is an average size Espada with shoulder-length, pink hair and red-orange eyes. He wears silver-framed glasses which give him an intelligent appearance. His arrancar outfit is slightly different from others in that he wears shorter hakama that expose a type of sock covering his shins. The Exequias that appeared before Dordonii after he was defeated were ordered by Zaera-Polo without Aizen's approval. Zaera-Polo, expecting to be punished for his unapproved action, apologized deeply to Aizen, who chose not to punish Zaera-Polo for his decision because it was not destructive. He seems to do scientific work due to the fact that he was asked by Aizen to extract information on Ichigo's reiatsu from Dordonii's body. Although Zaera-Polo is very polite to Aizen, later gestures he makes when his back is turned make it appear that he resents him. No remains of a hollow mask are visible on his body (though some fans speculate his mask is actually his glasses) nor has he been shown to carry a zanpakutō yet. The position of his hollow hole is also yet to be confirmed.

[edit] Former Espada

  • Luppi - 6th Espada (deceased)

Luppi (ルピ?) (sometimes written as Rupee or Rupi) is a male arrancar, often mistaken for a female, who briefly takes Grimmjow Jaggerjack's place as the 6th Espada. He fights against 4 opponents simultaneously in the 3rd invasion of Karakura Town and seems to be handling them easily, despite his cockiness. He is repelled by Tōshirō Hitsugaya with a Thousand Year Ice Prison. Luppi later questioned his master on the point of their attack if it was all just to obtain Inoue Orihime but Aizen jokingly remarked that he didn't expect Luppi to get so beaten up. Annoyed and embarrassed, Luppi swears revenge against Hitsugaya, but the healed up Grimmjow mercilessly butchers him in Hueco Mundo in return for Luppi's cocky remarks prior to this.

Luppi's zanpakutō is Trepadora (蔦嬢 lit. vine girl, but Spanish for rambling, i.e a variety of ivy or vine), a short blade he wears close to the armpit. Trepadora is released with the command kubire (縊れ, strangle!). When released, Luppi gains control of eight long tentacles, which can also grow spikes to cause additional damage.

[edit] Privaron Espada

  • Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio (ドルドーニ・アレッサンドロ・デル・ソカッチオ?) - 103rd arrancar

Dordonii is a "Privaron Espada", which means that he was once among the Espada, but was dropped from the group, and was given a 3-digit rank to identify him. Ichigo initially pitied him as he thought that he was weak because of his rank, a notion that Dordonii quickly dispelled in battle. Dordonii is a flamboyant arrancar with neatly groomed sideburns, goatee and eyebrows. His hair is slicked back with two pieces sticking up which look like small horns, and the remains of his hollow mask are just a slab on his forehead with horns to mirror his hairstyle. Dordonii's arrancar outfit is customized to fit his eclectic personality with fringe on the forearm portion of the sleeves, a poofy black sash tied at his waist, shoulder pads, and openings down the front which reveal his black undershirt. He acts goofy (very similarly to Don Kanonji), and in his first entrance, trips and makes outrageous, silly gestures to lure Ichigo into a false sense of security. When Ichigo fired a getsuga tenshō blast at him, thinking it would be a one hit kill, Dordonii simply stopped it with a kick. Dordonii's fighting style revolves around his legs, as he uses them to deliver powerful kicks and deflect oncoming attacks with ease.

Dordonii's zanpakutō is named Giralda and is released with the phrase maware (旋れ, rotate!). The name of his zanpakutō is written with a kanji compound (暴風男爵, meaning Storm Baron), but takes on a non-Japanese reading as Giralda (from the homonym Spanish tower that twists with the wind, lit. weathervane). When releasing Giralda, Dordonii grows large horns on his shoulders and armor that starts at his feet, wraps around his calf's and juts out at his waist with two more horns. His mask also extends, framing his face. While released, two enormous cyclones come from the armor in his legs which keeps him hovering in the air, as well as adding a lot of extra force to his kicks. In addition, two serpent-like extensions jut out from these cyclones, which are used to execute long-range strikes. It should be noted that Dordonii has the ability to release his zanpakutō without unsheathing it.

As of now he is healed by Nell and tried to fight Ichigo once more, having revealed that he was forced to accept his demotion below the Espada arrancar created by Aizen but that he believed that he would be accepted back into the ranks of the Espada if he beat Ichigo at full power, but Ichigo simply broke his blade and left. He is now fighting against the Exequias, so they may not reach Ichigo and hamper his progress, as he appreciates that Ichigo showed him his full power in their fight when he didn't have to. He seems to have taken a liking to Ichigo, warning him that he must give up his merciful ways and become as coldhearted as those he is facing. He is implied to be killed by the Exequias.

  • Chirucchi Thunderwitch (チルッチ・サンダーウィッチ?) - 105th arrancar

A female Privaron Espada who encountered Uryū Ishida in the Tres Cifras section of Hueco Mundo. She was once part of the Espada , but was dropped and given a 3-digit number after stronger arrancar were created. Her appearance is akin to the gothic lolita style of Japanese fashion. She gets quite bothered if an enemy attacks her while she is talking. Although she wears a very strange costume, she still has nerve enough to make fun of Ishida's outfit. Her appearance consists of a frilly dress, short, dark-colored hair, teardrop markings on each cheek, and knee-high boots. Chirucchi has wings on her back, but it is unclear if they are part of her outfit or something else. The remains of her hollow mask are positioned in her hair right above the left side of her forehead and resemble a spiked hairpin.

Her zanpakutō, Golondrina (swallow, in Spanish), appears to be some kind of whip with a spinning disk looped into it that is capable of deflecting Ishida's quincy arrows. Its liberation phrase is katsukire (?つ斬れ, rip off!). The name of her zanpakutō is written with a kanji compound (車輪鉄燕, lit. Car Wheel Iron Swallow ), but takes on a non-Japanese reading as Golondrina. After releasing, Chirucchi will sprout large wings with blades in place of feathers. Her arms become long and her fingers become sharp claws. Her mask grows into 'feathers' going down her back with two similar feather-like structures growing from her legs.

[edit] Números

  • Shawlong Qufang (シャウロン・クーファン?)

Shawlong Qufang is the 11th arrancar in Sōsuke Aizen's arrancar army. Shawlong has a long face, and black hair braided and usually hanging over his shoulder. What remains of his mask is on the top of his head, but a portion drops down covering part of his face. Shawlong is also an intellectual (or at least an analyst), shown when he makes statements about his opponent's powers, being fairly confident to boot.

Shawlong's zanpakutō is named Tijereta and is released by the phrase tate (裁て, snip!). Like other arrancar, the name of his zanpakutō is written with a kanji compound (五鋏蟲, meaning five-scissor insect), but does not take on the Japanese or Chinese readings. Instead, the compound derives from Spanish and is read in katakana; Tijereta means earwig, which sounds similar to tijera, the Spanish word for scissors. When released, Shawlong grows claws on his fingers, and his queue becomes a tail with claws.

Shawlong is killed by Tōshirō Hitsugaya when he released his limit - he impaled Shawlong through the neck and froze him solid.

  • Edorad Leones (エドラド・リオネス?)

Edorad Leones (often mistranslated Eduardo) is the 13th arrancar. Edorad appears to be a very large man, with long black hair; however, half of his head is shaved, revealing a tattoo that runs from his eyebrow all the way to the back of his head. What remains of his hollow mask is merely the eye holes, and it essentially looks as if he wears unusual glasses.

Edorad's zanpakutō is named Volcanica (火山獣, lit. volcano brute), and is released by the phrase okiro (起きろ, awaken!). Edorad's appearance changes radically when Volcanica is released. His arms grow longer and much wider, similar to Chad's arm, and they become covered in what looks like volcanic rock. When released, his arms seem to have an exhaust spout at the shoulder, he is able to shoot fire from his fists.

Edorad is killed by Ikkaku Madarame during the second attack on Karakura town when half his torso is obliterated by Ikkaku's Ban Kai.

  • Il Forte Grantz (イールフォルト・グランツ?)

Il Forte Grantz is the 15th arrancar. Il Forte is a sarcastic, effeminate arrancar with long white hair which resembles Jūshirō Ukitake's. What remains of his hollow mask is on the top of his head, and looks like a broken helmet. He commonly refers to other characters as "brother" when speaking.

In his unreleased state he is more than a match for Renji Abarai's Bankai (at 20% power). During his fight with Renji Abarai he was attacked by Ururu Tsumugiya and was beaten bloody by a few of her insanely strong punches and kicks. Enraged at being smacked about by a mere child, he then releases his zanpakutō. In his final form he impales Ururu on his horn and then continues to fight Renji until Renji's limit is removed and the battle ends.

Il Forte's zanpakutō is named Del Toro (蒼角王子; the kanji literally mean "blue/pale horn prince", but does not take on the Japanese or Chinese readings. It is read in katakana and means "of the bull" in Spanish and Italian, but is more like the theme of this character is Italian due to the fact his name means The Fort in this language) and is released by the phrase tsukikudake (突き砕け, skewer!). When released, Il Forte comes to resemble a bull, grows horns, and walks on all four legs.

Il Forte is killed by Renji Abarai during the second attack on Karakura town when he is simply blown to bits.

  • D-Roy (ディ・ロイ?)

D-Roy is the 16th arrancar. He is notable due to having been shown before the Soul Society arc of the story, when he helped the hollow Grand Fisher remove his mask.[3]

The remains of D-Roy's hollow mask are bulky, and similar in shape to a hammerhead shark's head. He also has jagged teeth, adding his shark-like characteristics. D-Roy is killed by Rukia Kuchiki when she unveils her Shikai during the second attack on Karakura Town. When D-Roy died, the other arrancar expressed disgust saying that "He was an 'arrancar' in name only".

  • Nakim (ナキーム?)

Nakim is a fat, silent arrancar. He only speaks once to answer a question before his death. The remains of his hollow mask cover the entire right side of his face.

Nakim is killed by Rangiku Matsumoto during the second attack on Karakura town when she releases her limit and gives him multiple fatal wounds.

The name and exact abilities of his zanpakutō are unknown, but in the later stages of his battle with Rangiku, he appeared to have grown to an enormous size, large enough to crush her under his foot. It can be conjectured that this is his sword's ability. Curiously, his physical appearance, height aside, did not change at all.

[edit] Exequias

  • Unnamed Exequias Leader

As an exequias, it is his duty to deal with rebels and intruders in Las Noches. Unlike most arrancar, there is no part of his face visible, but it may be that he is wearing a mask over his face. He appears to be a higher rank than the other Exequias because his face is a bull's skull instead of a human skull. He carries a zanpakutō, but its name and released state have not been revealed. He is now fighting Dordonii along with the other Exequias and seems to know him.

[edit] Others

  • Grand Fisher (グランドフィッシャー?)
  • Voiced by: Chafurin (Japanese), Paul St. Peter (English)

A hollow that had evaded the shinigami for over 50 years, Grand Fisher is the killer of Ichigo Kurosaki's mother, Masaki Kurosaki, and the first hollow that poses a real threat to Ichigo. Grand Fisher's preferred method of fighting Shinigami involves using a tentacle-like limb to create a decoy copy of a person that the attacker cannot hurt because of their emotional attachment to the subject; Outside combat, he uses this limb to trick people who can see ghosts so that he can distinguish and devour them. Grand Fisher can also fight with his actual body, and as long as either the decoy or main body survives, he cannot be purified. Ichigo manages to repel it, but not defeat it outright. Later he was turned into an imperfect arrancar by Iceringer, and is later used by Sōsuke Aizen as an experimental subject for the hōgyoku. He then returns to the real world to exact revenge on Ichigo, and attacked Kon, who was inhabiting Ichigo's body then, but is killed by the shimigami appearance of Isshin Kurosaki in one hit. When he returned to find Ichigo, he resembled a large, humanoid version of his old self, with a tattooed face poking out from between his jawbones. Prior to his death, he transformed into a huge, monstrous creature and drew a large sword from a sheath on his back. Presumably, this was his zanpakutō, and the transformation was triggered by its release; however, his abilities as an arrancar remain unknown, as he was killed before he could even make a move. In the anime, it is mentioned that he particularly likes to devour women.

  • Demōra (デモウラ?)

Demōra is a large arrancar with short dreadlocks and has abnormally long arms, and makes his debut in Hueco Mundo with Iceringer. His hollow mask covers the top half of his face, but its left half was shattered by Yasutora Sado. Being a hollow with low intelligence, Demōra has an inhuman appearance as an arrancar; nonetheless, he is still furious when labeled as such by Iceringer. His usual method of attack involves gathering spiritual energy from his surroundings in a manner similar to the Quincy, concentrating it in his palm, and releasing it as he strikes his opponent. His special attack is to use his long, whiplike tongue to attack opponents. Despite this, he is outclassed, and easily defeated by Chad.

  • Iceringer (アイスリンガー?)

An arrancar initially revealed in Chapter 25 and the beginning of Episode 8 alongside D-Roy and Grand Fisher, Iceringer's identity is revealed when he reappears in Hueco Mundo along with Demōra. He has a very bulky mask which resembles a bird's head, and only a small portion of his face is visible. To strengthen the image created by the mask, he also has spikes running down the length of his back and has thin, skeletal wings and fingers. Iceringer doesn't seem too concerned with his appearance, stating that Demōra and himself deserted their human forms to gain a greater power. His special attack is called Uña Tirotear (翼状爪弾 / Wing Nail Bullet), in which he shoots projectiles from his wingtips and fingertips; he can fire up to 108 consecutive shots using this technique, and is a regular user of the sonido technique. Despite this, he is easily overpowered and defeated by Uryū Ishida, whose new bow technique allows him to outgun the arrancar.

  • Nell Tu (ネル・トゥ?)

Nell Tu is a female arrancar toddler who lives in the desert of Hueco Mundo with her adoptive hollow brothers Dondo Chakker, Pesshe, and their pet Bawabawa. Despite looking like a toddler, she appears to have a number of bizarre phrases and words in her vocabulary that are out of place on someone so young (referring to herself as a masochist and saying all kinds of other outlandish things). Though originally frightened by shinigami she develops an attachment to Ichigo and follows him into Los Noches. She does not carry a zanpakutō, but has the unique ability to absorb enemy attacks and fire them back with powerful force. She also has the ability to heal others with her saliva.

  • Lolly (ロリ?)

A teenage female arrancar who was ordered to bring Orihime to Aizen when he wanted to show her the hōgyoku. She seems loyal to Aizen, as shown by her anger at Aizen's interest in Orihime. The remnants of her mask cover the upper-left side of her head and face, including her eye, and has teeth still connected to it. Lolly's uniform fits her name, including a schoolgirl-themed skirt and what looks to be black boots that reach her thighs, along with black hair in pigtails. Due to her name, and the fact that her mask is identical to Menoly's, it's possible that the two arancarrs are sisters.

  • Menoly (メノリ?)

A teenage female arrancar who was ordered to bring Orihime to Aizen when he wanted to show the hōgyoku. Menoly was reluctant to leave Aizen alone with Orihime, although she didn't seem as interested in Aizen's feelings towards Orihime as Lolly was. The remnants of her mask cover the upper-right side of her head and face, including her eye. Menoly closely resembles a female Grimmjow or Hitsugaya. Due to her name, and the fact that her mask is identical to Lolly's, it's possible that the two arancarrs are sisters.

  • Arturo Plateado (アルトゥロ・プラチアド?)
  • Seiyu: Tomokazu Seki[4]

Arturo Plateado (lit. Arthur Silver in Spanish) is an arrancar designed by Sega, in conjunctions with Tite Kubo, specifically for Bleach Wii: Shiraha Kirameku Rinbukyoku, and won't be seen in the manga or anime. Arturo looks very similar to Grimmjow in appearance, but with his hair slightly longer, snake-like eyes, and the remains of his Hollow mask on his right cheek of what appears to be the jaw, but is extended round the back of his head. His hollow hole is located below the base of his neck, much like Ulquiorra.[1] [5]

Arturo's zanpakutō is called Fenice (不滅王, lit. immortal king. Fenice(Fenix) means phoenix in Spanish). The videos on the official site show him with two different sets of energy wings: the first, which shows what seems to be a regular special (he uses sonido to repeatedly slash the opponent from different directions), he has two blue wings (which look similar to the one Uryū Ishida grew when he entered Quincy Final Form). The second set, which appear during what seems to be his ultimate attack (he hovers in the air and then charges up and fires a cero), look to be made of multi-coloured flame.
