"Holler" is a pop-R&B song by the Spice Girls, their first single release after a two year break. The song eschews the pop sound of their earlier work for harder tones and grittier beats. the song was written by Rodney Jerkins, his brother Fred, LaShawn Daniels and The Spice Girls themselves.
In the United Kingdom, the track was released as a double-A-side, along with the ballad, "Let Love Lead the Way", and soon became their ninth chart topper, drawing them level with Swedish supergroup ABBA (only Madonna, Westlife, Cliff Richard, The Beatles, and Elvis Presley have had more number-one singles).
Despite its American ethos, the track was not released in the U.S., seriously affecting the sales of the group's third LP, Forever. With no lead single, the album flopped on the Billboard 200, peaking at an unimpressive number thirty-nine. "Holler" did garner limited U.S. radio airplay, however, and even climbed to number five on MTV's TRL.
