This is a hobbyist-built main circuit in a 6.5 digit frequency counter, constructed almost entirely from 74xx series integrated circuits on a wirewrap board. Built in 1985 and still working over 20 years later. Working from the bottom row, a crystal oscillator signal is divided down to 1Hz squarewave and gates the frequency to be measured into a set of decade counters (2nd and 3rd rows up) and the top two rows a set of latches feed out to a BCD decoder and display driver (off this photo). Logic resets the counters prior to loading more incoming pulses.
