HMS Stygian (pennant number P249) was a S-class submarine of the British Royal Navy. The ship is listed as being a member of the fourth group, although she had the external stern torpedo tube fitted as in the third group. Sold to be broken up for scrap on 28 October 1949.

  • 6 Sep, 1944 HMS Stygian (Lt. G.S.C. Clarabut, RN) sank a Japanese sailing vessel with gunfire of the west coast of Burma (now Myanmar).
  • 17 Oct, 1944 HMS Stygian sank three small Japanese vessels with gunfire off Penang.
  • 19 Oct, 1944 HMS Stygian sank a small Japanese vessel with gunfire off Penang.
  • 28 Nov, 1944 HMS Stygian sank a Japanese vessel with gunfire off Sabang.
  • 7 Dec, 1944 HMS Stygian sank a Japanese vessel with gunfire in the Strait of Malacca.
  • 16 Jan, 1945 HMS Stygian sank three Japanese sailing vessels with gunfire south of the Malacca Strait.
  • 17 Jan, 1945 HMS Stygian sank the Japanese Nichinan Maru and a sailing vessel with gunfire off Perak in position 05.42N, 98.57E. (see map)
  • 22 Jan, 1945 HMS Stygian sank three Japanese sailing vessels with gunfire south of the Malacca Strait.
  • 24 Mar, 1945 HMS Stygian sank a Japanese coaster with gunfire north of Bali, Dutch East Indies.
  • 2 Apr, 1945 HMS Stygian sank a Japanese coaster with gunfire in the Java Sea south of Kangean Island in position 07.02S, 115.32E.
  • 10 Apr, 1945 HMS Stygian sank two Japanese coasters with gunfire in the Java Sea.
  • 12 Apr, 1945 HMS Stygian sank a Japanese coaster with gunfire near Bali.
  • Stygian also sank the Japanese auxiliary minesweeper Wa 104 (175 tons, former Dutch Djember) and damaged the Japanese auxiliary submarine chaser Cha 104 off Bali in position 08.05S, 115.06E.
  • Stygian acted as tow for midget submarine XE-3, when it successfully attacked the Japanese cruiser Takao in Singapore Harbour (Operation Struggle)
