HMS Duke of Gloucester (1813)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The HMS Duke of Gloucester was a 10 gun brig of the British Navy. It was being repaired at York when the Americans briefly captured the colonial capital in 1813 during the War of 1812.

British general Roger Hale Sheaffe ordered that its sister ship, the HMS Sir Isaac Brock, was to be torched during the British retreat from York. This prevented the Americans from seizing the frigate.
