050315-N-5345W-140 Persian Gulf (15 March 2005) – The Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Darwin (FFG04) underway in the waters of the Persian Gulf alongside the Nimitz class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75). Darwin is a long-range escort with roles including area air defense, anti-submarine warfare, surveillance, reconnaissance and interdiction. She can counter simultaneous threats from the air, surface and sub-surface. The Truman Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
