HMAS Wallaroo

HMAS Wallaroo (J-222), named for the marsupial of the same name, was a Bathurst class corvette laid down by Poole and Steel Limited at Sydney in New South Wales on 24 April 1941, launched on February 18 1942 by Mrs Poole, wife of the Chairman of Directors, Poole and Steel Ltd and commissioned on July 15 1942.
HMAS Wallaroo was involved in a collision with the US Liberty ship Henry Gilbert Costin on the night of June 11 1943. Three sailors from the Wallaroo were killed during the collision. Wallaroo sank while attempting to reach the port of Fremantle.
