HMAS Tarakan (L-129) is a Balikpapan class heavy landing craft laid down by Walkers Limited at Maryborough in Queensland in December 1971, launched on 16 March 1972 and commissioned into the Royal Australian Navy on 15 June 1973.
The Tarakan is the second of two naval vessels named after the town of Tarakan in Borneo, site of an attack by the I Australian Corps on May 1, 1945, the first being HMAS Tarakan (L-3017), a Mark III Tank Landing Ship.
