HMAS Gladstone

Two ships of the Royal Australian Navy have been named for the port of Gladstone in Queensland.
The first HMAS Gladstone (J-324/M-324) was a Bathurst class corvette laid down by Walkers Limited at Maryborough in Queensland on 4 August 1942, launched on 26 November 1942 by Mrs. D. Watson, wife of a member of the dockyard staff, and commissioned on 22 March 1943. HMAS Gladstone paid off on 16 July 1956, was sold to the Port Phillip Sea Pilots Association and renamed Akuna.
The second HMAS Gladstone (P-216) is a Fremantle class patrol boat laid down by the North Queensland Engineers and Agents at Cairns in Queensland on 7 March 1983, launched on 28 July 1984 and commissioned on 8 September 1984.
