Hjörtur J. Guðmundsson

Hjörtur Jónas Guðmundsson (born May 2, 1978) is director of Heimssýn, an Icelandic organization opposed to the entry of Iceland into the European Union.

Hjörtur is a founding member of Heimssýn (founded in 2002). He has been a board member of the organisation since 2004 and was a board member of TEAM, the European alliance of EU-critical movements, on behalf of Heimssýn 2005-2006. A substitute member since 2006. Furthermore Hjörtur has been editor of the website Heimssyn.is since 2003.

Hjörtur is educated in sociology at the FNV College in Sauðárkrókur and in political history at the University of Iceland, Reykjavík.

Hjörtur is also director of the conservative free-market think tank Veritas and a fellow of the Copenhagen Institute. Hjörtur is a member of the Icelandic Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn) and of the party's Committee on Foreign Affairs. He also served as chairman of the Foreign Committee of the National Youth Organisation of the Independence Party (Samband ungra sjálfstæðismanna) at its national congress in 2005.

Hjörtur has edited the website 'EU Related News From Iceland' since 2004 and the website Íhald.is since 2005 (íhald in Icelandic means conservatism). He is also a writer for The Brussels Journal.

Hjörtur is the author of many articles and essays published in a number of mainly Icelandic but also foreign newspapers and journals on politics and history since 1998.
