Hitoshi Ashinano

Hitoshi Ashinano (芦奈野ひとし Ashinano Hitoshi, born April 25, 1963) is the pen name of the author of a variety of manga. He is most noted for Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō (ヨコハマ買い出し紀行), a series which ran for almost twelve years in Kodansha's monthly anthology Afternoon.

He also wrote and drew PositioN which ran in the now defunct Afternoon Season Zōkan and later in Bessatsu Morning.

He has also been known to create dōjinshi under the name "suke".

His manga is characterised by minimal use of screentone, with shadow effects instead achieved with hand-drawn hatching, which gives scenes a pale, whitish appearance. His work also usually has a rather laid-back, nostalgic feel with undertones of mystery; there are frequent stretches with little or no dialogue.

Prior to his debut Ashinano worked as an assistant to manga artist Kosuke Fujishima.
