Defining the Subject

A few thoughts for revision:

• This article should show that it's part of the Wikipedia series about role-playing games.
• Perhaps a better title would be, History of Role-playing Games so visitors don't confuse this with drama or sociology.
  • I came here to suggest the same exact thing. "Role-playing" has a broader meaning; the "games" (not capitalized, though) is needed for disambiguation. --BrianSmithson 12:45, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

• LARPs, MMORPGs, etc. also merit attention.
• Are chronological divisions by decade the best way to organize this article?

Major Edit

Proceeded with the revision I'd already been drafting when this article became a candidate for group revision. Feel welcome to improve it!

• Transported and expanded the history section from the role-playing games article.
• Moved the controversy section verbatim. It could use some work.
• Added an electronic media discussion. It could use expansion.

I'd like to see a few concluding lines about virtual economies. This article still has plenty of room for improvement. Durova 02:53, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Revised Controversy

It's much longer now, but given the degree of misunderstanding in some quarters an in-depth treatment seems appropriate. Still need to work on the paragraph about Brazil. Durova 19:59, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Recent controversy

I've removed this passage from the recent controversy section:

In 2005-, two crimes in Brazil against RPG gamers shocked Brazilian society [1]; a discussion in the press about the permission of these games by parents, based on the lack of information, cruelty and format of these crimes, was exposed in the media. In Espírito Santo, the site of the crimes, law projects to ban RPG games have been initiated by religious leaders in the local deliberative assembly [2]. No sucess.[3]

First of all, the passage doesn't say what the crimes were. I suppose it was meant that readers of the article should click the external link to find out; that's not acceptable, and besides that, it's not even in English. Neither is the second link. Even setting the issue of links aside, the paragraph itself is practically unintelligible. Kafziel 18:21, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Bias template

What's the reason for the bias template being added? Which aspect of the article / controversy section is specifically seen as not conforming to the NPOV policy? I'd like to address the issue ASAP if possible. Fairsing 13:59, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Spelling correction: Roleplaying

FYI, it looks like the standard spelling used by most gaming companies in their products is "roleplaying". The hyphenated "role-playing" is an informal variant spelling. Therefore moved the page and am spell correcting the article to standardize the spelling. Dugwiki 19:14, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Spell corrected the article too, as above. Note that a couple of the links are now temporarilly broken. Am working on correcting the links.... Dugwiki 19:29, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
