History of the U.S. public debt

In the end of the year 2003 the overall U.S. public debt was seven trillion dollars, (in U.S. trillions). The first yearly reported value was $75,463,476.52 on January 1, 1791. The lowest point was on January 1, 1835, when the national debt was only $33,733.05.
