History of the Jews in Bahrain

Bahraini Jews constitute another one of the world's oldest, and today's smallest, Jewish communities. Today the community has a synagogue and small Jewish cemmetary and numbers around thirty people.

[edit] Early history
There are Talmudic references made of a Jewish community dating back in Bahrain, as well as references in Arabic texts to a Jewish presence in Hajar during Mohammed's time.
[edit] Modern times (1948-)
After the establishment of the State of Israel, riots broke out in Bahrain and many of the 600 strong community fled to the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Israel. Things were relatively normal until the Six Day War. The community again fled violent protests with a small amount deciding to stay. Today the community is roughly around thirty people.
