Historical regions in Spain
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Historical regions in Spain are those that are granted by the 1978 Constitution a special status as autonomous communities. These historical regions are: Catalonia, the Basque Country, Galicia and Andalusia. The other 13 autonomous communities have an ordinary status and more standardized and limited autonomies.
While all of these regions have their statutes of autonomy close to approval during the Second Spanish Republic. Actually, only the Catalan statute became a reality during the Spanish Civil War, effective only on the limited part of the region under the control of the Basque Government.
