Hello I am a Japanese postgraduate student (resident in Japan). May I ask you a question? What is your basis on your comments on Democratic Socialist Party (Japan) and Young Socialists (Japan)? For the best of my knowledge, it seems to me that many of them are generally inaccurate. Could you please tell me about your information sources? Thank you

Thank you for your comments. As far as I know, the Young Socialists were the youth wing of SDP - they were formed by social democrats but also by former members of Minsha Youth. They couldn't be a youth wing of no party. Please reply here if you have any other questions. :)

Yeah, Japan's political situation is so confusing. As you may know, Japan's Social Democratic Party (former Socialist Party) and Democratic Socialist Party were opposed to each other, and have different political opinions, so the two trends cannot join together. Recently formed "Young Socialists" are not affiliated to any party, but some members belong to the first opposition Democratic Party of Japan. Honestly, I know a member of Young Socialists personally, and he was astonished when he's heard about your comments. Truly, as you point out, youth organisation "naturally" has its mother party. This reflects Japan's complex situation. And, what I want to know is your "information sources", i.e. how you came to have your comments. Thank you

Yes - the SDP/JSP was more moderately socialist, while DSP Was democratic socialist. Yes - but still - is it just a youth wing with members of all three parties? It has to be affiliated with something.
Most of the info was already there. About the Young Socialists, Minsha Youth - so I didn't add any of that in there personally. But I know of the Dem. Soc. Party from other sources.. including electionworld.org, and some government websites, including here at Wikipedia.

Thank you for your response. The point is that the now-defunct Democratic Socialist Party is more right to the JSP/DSP, and the party is NOT a "democratic socialist" party in the sense of Germany's Party of Democratic Socialism, a variant of left socialism with communist tendencies. Specifically, DSP was "more moderate" than JSP/SDP in Japan. Former DSP members, including its congressmen, are now members of Democratic Party of Japan. When forming New Frontier Party, some former DSP members are disappointed with the merger, so they decided to form a transitional entity "in order to revive DSP in the future." This was Minsha Youth. However, their ambition to revive DSP was failed, and Minsha Youth was forced to be dissolved in the end. Now, Japan's Social Democratic Party has many problems in that they are not close to Western social democracy, generally anti-US, pro-North Korea. On the other hand, former DSP included many conservative, right-wing elements deviated from centre-left, social democracy. (Astonishingly, DSP Youth existed before dissolution of DSP, of which the successor was Minsha Youth, was more right than the mother party. How about that? Youth organisation is to be more left than the party in social democracy!!!!) In my opinion, this is the reason why social democracy is not trusted in Japan. "Young Socialists" were founded to overcome both the SDP's far left nature (that is the main reason of misunderstanding of social democracy in Japan) and the right-wing, conservative nature included in DSP, in order to pursue and establish moderate socialism/social democracy in the European sense. This is why Young Socialists do not have its mother party so far.

Yes, the DSP is a democratic socialist party - but democratic socialism is just the party name of Germany's communist party. The DSP and its youth wing were quite right wing, - or should I say moderate. Well, I do stand corrected. If you'd like you can edit the DSP page.

Probably true, but its aim of foundation was to reconstruct JSP into a social democratic party in 1960. What do you think about Japan's present SDP?

Well, the SDP is doing worse than the Communists - so it obviously needs to merge or reform. In fact - there are talks between Minshuto and the Shakai Minshuto to merge. =)

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
